Holgate Racially Abused By Firmino - The Guardian

This would explain why Holgate seemed to get quite upset and angry when Firmino said something to him after Mason sent him flying into the stands (well in lad).
It was a weird thing to see on TV. Holgate walked off not arsed, Firmino came back and said something to him, Holgate got angry, put his hands on the ref (surprised Madley didn't book him) and had to be taken back and calmed down. Perhaps Madley heard something which is why he didn't book Holgate, but then surely he would have booked/sent off Firmino if it was racial abuse?

The Football Association is expected to launch an investigation into allegations by the Everton defender Mason Holgate that he was racially abused by Roberto Firmino during Liverpool’s FA Cup win at Anfield.

Holgate clashed with the Liverpool forward after pushing him over the advertising hoardings in the first half of the home side’s 2-1 victory. Firmino reacted furiously and ran towards the Everton defender, who erupted after something was said by the Brazil international. Holgate had to be restrained by several team-mates and appeared to complain to the referee, Robert Madley, that a racist term had been used. The match official reported the allegation to the fourth official, Jon Moss, and spoke to the 21-year-old again after the game.

Holgate’s allegation is expected to be included in Madley’s match report, which will be submitted to the FA, who will then determine whether further action is necessary.

A Liverpool spokesperson said: “The club and the player will fully co-operate with the relevant authorities to ensure the facts are established in a thorough manner if deemed necessary or requested. While that process is ongoing we will not be making any further comment.”

Firmino was not asked to give a statement after the match but the FA will act if prompted by the match report. Sam Allardyce refused to comment on the incident but Everton’s director of football, Steve Walsh, was involved in discussions with the club’s media department after the Cup tie.

“I’m telling you nothing until whatever systems are used to find out exactly what happened or didn’t happen,” the Everton manager said. “I am here to talk about football not controversial incidents, because football is my life and anything outside the game has to be dealt with by the authorities. Even if I had or I hadn’t [spoken to Holgate] I wouldn’t tell anyone in this press conference. That is for others to deal with. I have left that with the director of football and told him to sort that one out.”

Jürgen Klopp admitted: “I heard about something but I can’t say anything so far. The fourth official said something to me. I never heard the words so I thought they were going to investigate the Holgate foul. That’s how I understood it at first. Then after the game the fourth official informed me but it wasn’t that I really got what it was about.”
All this verbal dancing around by Walsh & Kllippity means something was said...and it wasn't good

If queen kenny was still there they'd be printing the tee shirts as we speak

Agree 99%. Although I cannot agree that “no-one is saying firmino is definitely guilty”- look at the title of this thread as a starting point. Countless comments declaring that he’s a racist and definitely used one of, if not the, worst racial slur’s in language. The video footage available so far doesn’t prove he said anything of the sort, but importantly it doesn’t prove innocence either as the kopites seem to desperately and vehemently believe. Right now, nobody truly knows. Except of course perhaps Firmino and Holgate.

Therefore whether people like it or not, there has to be an official investigation because of an ALLEGED racist remark. That’s it right now. Nothing more to it than that. We all know he plays in red and is a massive weapon but proper procedure still has to be followed. Whether you trust the FA on that is another matter.

There's rebalancing taking place. The initial blast was that nothing had been said. It is clear something other than the word puta stoked Holgate up.
A fair investigation is needed, not clouded or whitewashed or influenced because it's 'them'.

My reply , if you’ve read it , says he either called him it or he thought he called him it . I don’t know but as is standard given the circumstances it’s not unreasonable for fans to believe their own player . I include the RS in that , my issue with them as with Suárez isn’t that they believe their own player it’s that they explain stuff away . In fact they explain everything away .

If they post in their forums “I don’t think he said it , I reckon he misheard him “ or similar then who could argue other than to say they’re wrong or we think they’re wrong . When I find them pathetic is when they explain “it’s a term of endearment “ or “its attempt gbh from holgate “ and “to react like that after that assault is reasonable “ . For me That’s the difference , one of many , but a major difference between us and them . Anyway I think they’re pathetic , look at them with holgates twitter nobody else does it . They’re Rats.

Every club has idiot social media and forum bell ends mate, I thought that was obvious.

It’s not exclusive to our neighbors.

I dont understand how anybody can claim they know what was said, whether its Portugese, English or bloody Klingon as Kenny's head was blocking the camera angle when the alleged offensive word was spoken.

The amount of "blues" defending racism is quite shocking... and the "justification" being used by some "blues" is sickening. Racism should and can never ever be justified.

I think the worst argument is that it can’t be racism due to neither of them being white, which is what was basically put out when someone posted pictures of them both and said they can’t see how he could be racist.

It’s winding me up mate, I don’t get what cause they’re trying to achieve herez

When Suarez called Evra 'blacky blacky blacky' and grabbed his arm, Dirk Kuyt was stood right next to them and didn't react at all.

It's hardly outrageous to assume the ref/other players didn't hear/notice as he stopped paying attention attention to them 2 going at each other

Never noticed that before. Kuyt as expected is a scum bag.

I remember Glen Johnson being a tool in that situation too.

Similar to when Terry abused Ferdinand so got Ashley Cole I think to defend him?
