Holgate Racially Abused By Firmino - The Guardian

Tbf there is a risk of getting Holgate in trouble through no fault of his own. We know how the FA and the RS work. There is more chance of Holgate getting banned for a push than firmino for Racism, regardless of the evidence. Better to do our talking in private and forcefully, than to some stooge from the BBC who thought he was working for the anfield wrap.
Nah. back your player up. Put the emphasis on Firmino and Liverpool. Allardyce bottled that...or more likely couldn't give a flying one.

Down to how different ethnic groups are perceived in South American mate, although are friends on RAWK seemed to think it was a SA term of endearment when Suarez said it to Evra.

As i said before - Suarez insulted Evra, same Suarez whose grandfather i believe is distinctly a coloured guy.
Mate you don't call people coloured unless they are south African, it's deemed racist. I know you don't mean to cause offence but I'm just letting you know.

Suarez didn't say n-###r and I doubt firmino did either since it's an English word. He said negro which isn't offensive in Uruguay, where I've spent a lot of time.
I completely agree that insulting someone using their race is unacceptable. It doesnt mean these foreign players understand that or think it as rascism. More a dig.
The Colombian player who made a slanty eye gesture at the south Korean during an international was bemused by the accusation.

It's all about context though isn't it...

Not a fan of Allardyce batting this off to his “director of football”. Should publically support his player and deal with it himself. He’s the manager ffs

Yes, it is. If you sit around a pub and say 'negro' to a friend and everyone laughs about it though still a weird thing to say isn't comparable to storming full speed towards someone visibly angry and have no reason for pointing out anyone's ethnicity.

I have said he was lucky not to be sent off for 2 yellows, one for the push on the racist and the other for manhandling the ref. The fact nothing was done speaks volumes.

Indeed.

I had just assumed he had received a yellow and wax quite surprised when the commentator said, in the second half, that he had not been booked.

Actually mate, in the true sense of a Director of Football - this would be something he would be in charge of handling

I've watched it over and over again...can't make out the comments but what I'm now convinced on is that, although Firmino was clearly pushed, it wasn't hard enough to get him over the advertising hoardings...Firmino put himself in the crowd imo.

Also, I have to say, I loved the way Mason just stood there waiting for the response, standing up and refusing to be intimidated.

I just watched it and thought the same, he could have stopped himself going over.

Especially when said word comes at the end of another set of swearing insults.

Why mate?

Holgate alleges he’s been racially abused , Evertonians are concerned and in some cases angry but that makes us bitter and small time .

Something clearly happened , what exactly I’ve no idea . At the minute it seems our player says he was racially abused , like I say I don’t follow the journey from that to us being bitter .

What I don't get is when you look at both of them, where does race come into it? It would be very odd for him to make a racist comment based on appearance of them both.

Only way he could be racist is against nationality which would be strange in itself considering the country he plays in. If someone could enlighten me to how the racism can play a part then it would be quite helpful here!
