Holgate Racially Abused By Firmino - The Guardian

If a camera angle exists, and from that BBC shot posted previously, it appears that there should be one. It will have to be shown to prove that whatever verdict is found is the correct one. If it's not shown, then the verdict will be questioned and not accepted by those backing the side who don't get the call.

I do hope that Liverpool and Everton can both commit to some anti-racist initiative together in the near future. It might take some of the sting out of what is becoming an ever more vitriolic fixture, and this subject deserves to be fully tackled by everyone. Both clubs should be leading by example over this.

I hate racism in al of his guises and hope for both players' sakes this is not the case. One should not suffer it and the other should not use it. If it is proven, he needs kicking out of the game but this will not happen. not so much because he plays for them but because he is a commodity and no business will give one away - the way of the game, I'm afraid. If it is not proven, Holgate needs backing to the hilt by all sides - he was brave enough to speak out I'm sure on what he felt he heard. I cannot see any reason for him to lie over this.

The problems include - it is all played out in a public domain with millions watching so opinions are in the media the moment after it happened and the tribal view points will skew what people see/say. This wont end with a decision either way but given the way the badly handled and mis-judged the Suarez incident, it will e worth watching their reaction to this.

Never got racism me. Once a player puts on our shirt they become blue.
I don't get this comment at all? I'm probably misinterpreting it but what does playing for us have to do with anything? I'd be F'N fuming if one of our players racially abused anyone, I'd want said player hounded out of the club if they were proven to of done anything like that. Racism is wrong no matter what the context or scenario, no person derserves to be racially abused.

I think he's worded it poorly. Very poorly tbh. But I think he means that when you play for Everton and pull on the strip your background is irrelevant. He means that he's confused how race is important for any fan.

i know the gesture is right, but what would be the point with them? How long has the premier league been supportive of kick it out? And yet this stuff is still happening with the RS. They've already had one player banned for racism, booed another for being a victim and will likely boo holgate for the foreseeable future, especially if firminho is found guilty. It should be up to the FA to stamp their authority and show how much they back the kick it out campaign by making an example of the RS. They failed to do it last time with suarez. An 8 game ban was stupidly lenient imo.

All this is of course if firminho is guilty.

You do realise that racism isnt just between a white person and a black person right?

Imagine if a gay man claimed a lesbian woman was being homophobic to him. Would you just say "well your both gay. You probably just don't understand her because she's from skem".

Well, her being from Skem is quite a convincing defence innit.

I'm just sayin'

:pint2:

Exactly right. I don't think they can even prove number 3 though as Holgate clearly hasn't retracted his accusation. So at this point, I doubt he would come out and admit he lied, even if he had. I think he is adamant he heard something wrong though. Which leaves 1 or 2 as the outcomes of the investigation.

If it's 1, he will be accused of lying anyway by the RS and loads of neutrals. If it's 2 then Firmino will rightly be punished.

Case will not be pursued due to the impossibility of proof one way or the other.

The only authoritative testimony would be from the referee and as he, by necessity as to confirm Holgate's allegation would mean admitting he ballsed up royally at the time, is saying he heard nowt then that's an end to it, I am afraid.
