Holgate Racially Abused By Firmino - The Guardian

I honestly hope he hasn't racially abused him and he has just misheard him. If he has racially abused him he needs a lengthy ban simple. Got no time for racism - can't be in football. Like i said i hope he hasn't.

If he has misheard him you do know what will follow after that?
HOLGATE NEEDS TO BE BANNED FOR 8 GAMES FALSELY AACCUSING SOMEONE OF RACISM

or he just didn't hear the word said

sometimes the most obvious answer is the correct one...

With the ear piece they wear having with the other officials in their ear, the noise of the crowd and players, Firminho yelling in Portuguese and having to concentrate on what to do in an escalating situation, I can very reasonably see Madley not hearing what was said.

Occam's razor and all...

The only way Firmino is getting banned is if he either admits to it (never gonna happen), the referee claims he heard it (probably won't happen otherwise he would have sent him off) or there's another camera angle picking up his words that we haven't yet seen. Firmino probably did say it for Holgate to flip like that but unfortunately due to a lack of evidence it is likely that Firmino and the RS will walk away from this one.
Holgate’s reaction is 100% genuine. That doesn't necessarily mean Firmino said what he’s being accused of (i think he did too) but Holgate certainly felt he heard it. My guess is the FA will be thorough with this one whether there is sufficient evidence or not because they've made a pigs ear of these things previously and Racism is a massive issue and one of the things Fifa is keen to focus on and drive out. I imagine the FA will interview all parties and review all possible media before any further statement is made and only when they are 100% certain they've covered everything will they take action. They're useless at the best of times but they'll take their time with this one to cover their own arses more than anything. Holgate is a young promising black player in one of the biggest leagues in the world.... if it's seen as though his complaint is not taken seriously or given the same time and attention as a high profile case like the Suarez/Evra there would be serious questions and whilst the FA may not actually give a rats arse about Holgate they do care about how world football would see them if they palmed this off.

This club got away with murder in 1985 and not much has stuck to them since . Utter vermin from the fans , to the ex and current players , kopite journalists in the media straight down to the stewards. And every manager since Roy Evans has been poison and bought into the cult apart from hodgson who they hounded out .

Even the head steward on the Anfield Road was trying to incite a few of us in the upper Anfield Road on Friday but nobody was biting . Being a an ex copper and a kopite I suppose we should excuse his behaviour.

Madley has to claim this. If he admits to hearing it on the pitch and doing nothing he’s effectively condoning racism which he’s never going to admit to. My suspicion is he heard everything (hence why he didn’t book Holgate) but realised what that would mean for the game so did nothing. Why else would he run off to Moss if he’d heard a completely normal interaction?
No. The ref, although he got a lot wrong on the day, was right to refer to the assistant and say nothing/take no action at the time....that would be pre judging and could effect the enquiry which was bound to follow. Its very possible that the ref didn't hear anything, but there will be conflicting viewpoints(e.g. what did Kenny hear?).

I agree actually

I don't trust either of our fan bases to deal with this appropriately if he is indeed guilty

The rivalry is getting more toxic with every year and this won't help

It's so frustrating that the media etc keep referring to Firmino saying 'puta' as if that is what it's all about. Completely ignoring the fact that it's what is said after this that causes Holgate to react.

It's clear what word Holgate thinks has been said, so for me there are three scenarios:
1. Holgate is mistaken
2. Holgate is correct
3. Holgate is lying

Even removing any EFC bias, why would he lie? He can't believe the ref hasn't heard it so why would he be angry at that if he thought anything other than that word was used?

That BBC angle is the probably gonna be the most conclusive one. Just hope we all get to see it rather than just being informed of the outcome by the FA

If you look at his reaction its clear he thinks something has been said, if it was or if he misheard I don't know.
But one minute he's standing there cool as an SAS sniper, the next second he flips, that wasn't an act and it certainly wasn't premeditated playing the race card.

Exactly right. I don't think they can even prove number 3 though as Holgate clearly hasn't retracted his accusation. So at this point, I doubt he would come out and admit he lied, even if he had. I think he is adamant he heard something wrong though. Which leaves 1 or 2 as the outcomes of the investigation.

If it's 1, he will be accused of lying anyway by the RS and loads of neutrals. If it's 2 then Firmino will rightly be punished.

Jesus Christ, give it a rest..........all clubs have idiotic supporters and employees. To think they have the monopoly on it, is pathetic.
This is the sort of comment that can cause a lot of the trouble.

they are FAR worse than any other club in England. The old firm are close to them if you want to count Scotland.

And no I won’t give it a rest and my name isn’t Jesus
