What century are you living in? What club teams have won anything recently with teams made up entirely of players from their own country? Even Pep’s Barca had Messi, Henry, Abidal etc, it’s an incredibly bizarre argument to make.
Obviously times have changed and foreign players are much more numerous now in just about every league. But it’s got worse in the case of English clubs, the ones who have been successful in the past were at least 1/2 English players, now you’ll probably find 2-3 maximum.

I like how England apparently should have won all these tournaments as if the likes of Brazil, Argentina and France are pushovers.

One world cup, one final in the euros for a country with our resources and the players we've had is a huge underachievement.

We're probably one of the biggest underachievers in the game. All the other home nations have probably been at par for the size of their population.

Bare in mind that football isnt the number one sport in Wales and Ireland, or it is at least massively rivalled by Gaelic football and rugby.

Funny thread an all, but we're the biggest underachievers out the lot.

By ones that were successful in the past do you mean Man Utd ‘68, Forest back to back European Cup winners, Villa ‘82, 70’s and 80’s Liverpool, who were pretty much entirely English with maybe 2-3 Scottish or Irish players?

As I said a team full of English have one 1 tournament. Unlike the Scots who’ve won a number of tournaments with wholly Scottish teams and squads

Was going to point out that the day of the Scottish manager appear over, then remembered one such won a European trophy last season so changed my mind. Conveyor belt of players seems to have dried up some though.

I believe the removal of threat of violence has had an effect on the number of good managers Scotland produces now 😞

Why have the Scotland national team never ever gone beyond the group stages of a tournament in their history then if they’ve produced decades worth of world class talent that’s been conquering Europe with club sides?

In light of this, can we now suggest that Scotland are massive, massive underachievers? That’s certainly what you’re suggesting.
