Biggest underachievers?

Calvin has convinced me to change my vote to Scotland. A country that has produced boatloads of world class players that have collected European trophies galore, have never gone beyond the group stages of a tournament EVER. Try and make a case for anyone else underachieving to that extent.

I said it would take away any debate.
Anyway it’s my opinion that it’s something within the English character, personality, in their DNA which prevents them from winning anything of note. Which is why their club teams have needed players from other nations to help them achieve success.
1966 was a freak occurrence an outlier, and they probably did get help from foreigners.
That russian linesman played a blinder, I quite agree.

They’re all underachievers to be fair. England the biggest ones but Scotland, Ireland and Wales are too to varying extents. England’s World Cup record is poor and about on a par with Croatia who have only been in existence since 1994 and have a tiny population.

Scotland’s inability to get out of the group stage of a tournament is pitiful. Ireland had a brief flare up in the 90s but have been garbage since then. Wales have just come off a brief flare up and probably on their way back to the wilderness now. They all have smaller populations so can be excused more than England, but still should’ve achieved more throughout their histories

This is why I voted them. Even Ireland, Northern Ireland and Wales have achieved this. It’s absolutely embarrassing. I didn’t realise that was their record until I just looked it up as research for this thread, thought they might’ve managed it in like the 70s or something when they had Dalglish, Souness, Hansen, Law etc.

To be fair Association Football isn't the biggest or national sports in Ireland or Wales.

Id be more annoyed with us if it was.

Considering the relative states of both the Welsh and NI domestic leagues I'm amazed that either of these teams achieved what they did in Euro 2016.
And then Wales to qualify for world cup.
Both the biggest overachievers out of the home nations no doubt
