Horse Racing

ITV4 are showing a great TG4 documentary at 10.30 a.m. either tomorrow (Friday} or Saturday.

Jump Girls it is called and it is about the role of women in National Hunt racing in t’ Emerald Isle.

It focuses on Rachel Blackmore, Jesica Harrington and Katie Walsh in particular and gves a great insight into the Irish jumping scene in general.

Briony Frost just produced a hell of a ride to win a grade 1 at Cheltenham.

I know he has run up a record equalling win sequence but I am not a big fan of Altior.

IMO he is not in the same league as the truly great two mile chasers we have seen this century already.....Moscow Flyer, Masterminded and Sprinter Sacre.

I think Altior is more in that class just below those three giants of the division....with Azertiyoup and Well Chief.

I think Cheltenham just about shows him at his worse. I don't think the track particularly suits him, and yesterday the ground was a bog, but he finds a way to get the job done, which is what the great horses do.

Not for me.

No more than a top class two mile chaser.....not a “great” one in the mould of Moscow Flyer/Mastermided/Sprinter Sacre.

Whilst I agree, I think it would win on Boxing Day you know..

Oh for sure.

I am really looking forward to that race already......I almost hope we don’t have a home game on Boxing Day so I can sit home and savour the build up and the race itself :)

And if he could win that impressively who knows, maybe Henderson will have a go at the Gold Cup next year.

This time next year I might have to acknowledge Altior as an all time great for certain.

I love how the media try to make Cheltenham this big thing, but the public don't give the slightest toss and just want to know when the Grand National is.

Other way round mate. Race fans rank Cheltenham many leagues above the National, while to the media the National is the, er, national treasure

Never going Gold Cup day again, too many people and most are plebs just going because it a big day and know naff all about racing and just want to get rat arsed and cause problems.

Highlight of the week for me was probably the way Tiger Roll shot clear, backed loads of winners and made a tidy profit over the week but enjoyed it so much more the first 3 days just because you could move without having a pint spilled on you or have to queue for 20 minutes just to use a disgusting toilet.
