Horse Racing

Most of the horses on the open market are TB. Either ex racehorses or ones that weren’t good enough to be a racehorse.

As you say it’s an expensive business keeping a horse even if it’s just as a pet.
It would be interesting to know how many TB horses bred to race get cast aside and end up in a mincer somewhere in France.

The whole industry of breeding and selling horses needs regulating to stamp out this whole lack of respect to what is a beautiful species of animal.
In the states they estimate 10000 ex racehorses or potential racehorses are slaughtered every year but the number they say is probably a lot higher . Wherever you go the numbers are high, Australia , Ireland , Uk , Middle East etc. Lack of potential owners and cost makes them an unwanted animal which is a shame as they are so majestic .

It’s disgusting.
My love of horse racing is diminishing by the day.
I always thought (hoped) that the horses that retired or didn’t make it were rehomed or retrained.

Lovely idea isn’t it but just not possible with the amount of horses that are bred. It’s pretty crap that a so called lesser horse will run its heart out for years then once retirement hits they just send him/her to slaughter . Not sure how many retired horses go to slaughter but a lot of the younger ones who don’t make it go to slaughter. Some things have improved in racing and it’s more in the public eye now which is great for the sport and welfare of the animals, but I’d also say breeding is at an all time high ? Which is not good . You talk to some of the older punters and they will tell you the grand national isn’t the grand national anymore. It’s a lot safer now and a good job, too. I still find it hard to watch the grand national.

....Tiger Roll withdrawn from the GN due to ‘unfair weight’. The cynical in me wonders about this being a distraction to hit back at BHA.
Will he be running in the cross country ar Cheltenham or has been pulled from it ,absolutely gutted hes not racing in the national shame probably would of won last years as well. Jump racing imploding gutted.

On his last couple of runs I don't think he should be running anywhere anytime soon.
The horse seems to be a shell of its previous self. I hope they retire him to be honest.
