…..we were certainly right dismissing him going down the Bumper route, he’s going straight over hurdles. “He seems more of a staying horse” suggests if he’s good enough it’ll be Ballymore or Albert Bartlett.

i had a little saver on Bartlett earlier @ 22-1 (with cash-out) but I’d still favour Ballymore (rumour the owner has backed him for Bally but that is just rumour). Anyway not long to see if he is as good as his Point to Point suggests.

Fingers crossed.

….this weekends racing at Down Royal is a real indicator to Gordon Elliott’s good horses in the Spring. A couple of years ago I put up a Cheltenham Yankee at fancy prices after the meeting, 2 winners a 2nd with the final selection falling when odds-on favourite in the Ballymore.

i think the bookies are cottoning on, they’ve cut a number of horses on declarations for this weekend, most notably in the Bumper. Elliott has won it the last two years with horses that went on to win and finish 2nd in the Champion Bumper, it looks like he’s relying on King of Kingfield this year that’s been cut from 25-1 to as low as 7-1 in the last 48 hours.

There is a 3yo hurdle that Elliott has won the last 2 years with Quilixios (won the Triumph Hurdle) and Fil Dor (2nd Triumph Hurdle). He has one this year called Old Victoria that I’m getting in my book at 40-1 for Triumph Hurdle with 365 cash-out.

Another one to note is Mighty Potter who is entered in a race Elliott has used a stepping stone to the Turners Chase for which he is currently 12-1.

Worth watching this weekend.

….October ante-post Cheltenham Canadian from my Racing Forum;

Chemical Energy 10-1 (NHC)
King of Kingfield 10-1 (Bumper)
Mighty Potter 12-1 (Turners)
American Mike 10-1 (Bartlett)
Old Victoria 40-1 (Triumph)

This could look very good or very silly by tomorrow night.

Looks good. Where do you think Galvin will go this season? He’s a tempting 20-1 for the Gold Cup.

….short-priced favourite for Down Royal’s Champion Chase tomorrow. Yep, it’s looking like another tilt at the GC beckons & he’s certainly an e/w player. Finished a long way behind the winner in March but was amongst the placed horses jumping the last.

I know Elliott sees him as a National horse at some point but he’ll be carrying some weight whilst he’s running so well.

(When it comes to the big chases this season, Keep an eye on Capadanno. He could surprise a few).

Can someone tell me how come there is still flat meetings not all weather meetings still going on in the jump calendar bit weird never noticed before

….4 of these ran over the past two days & 3 won (KoK, Mighty Potter, Am Mike). I’ve already cashed in all the bets that included Old Victoria as he lost & would be unlikely to be good enough for a Triumph Hurdle. I also wasn’t impressed with King of Kingfield despite him winning & will take cash out on him when 365 allows.

….hit a fence hard yesterday and unsurprisingly went out like a light after that. Just have a feeling Elliott is stuck between a rock and hard place with Galvin, carrying too much weight for top handicap and unlikely to win a Gold Cup.

Notice him getting backed for the Cheltenham X-Country yesterday, into as low as 7-1. I took 33-1 last month because it’s Elliott’s known route for Grand National horses but he then gets them into races they won’t win to get their handicap mark down. Galvin won his first race.

Interesting where he goes next, watch if he starts falling down the weights.

That's racing

….33-1 offer with PP for Facile Vega & Galopin des Champs to go unbeaten this season is a fun bet that could give folk a bit of interest.

i put FV up on here for the Champion Bumper @ 25-1 this time last year before he’d seen a racecourse & he obliged. In his stable tour Mullins couldn’t hide what a prospect he is & says he’s a natural over a fence. FV is evens to win any race at the Festival.

GDC was outstanding last season & only a last fence fall at the Festival when we’ll clear of Bob Ollinger blighted his year. I suspect he’ll be aimed at the Gold Cup.
