Horse Racing

Spanish harlem is one from Mullins yard that is very highly touted.

…ha, ha, there’s so many of them it’s a bit like Mullins Bingo deciphering what are his top notch ones and which races they’ll head to. Spanish Harlem won in good style in France & might be one for Ballymore or Albert Bartlett, although Mullins says he‘s built to go over bigger obstacles next season.

He’s not one I’ve got in my book at the moment which might be a tip in itself

….yep, I got State Man in my book last year. He’s a good example of Mullins Bingo as he won a County Hurdle Handicap at the Festival in March & is now prominent in the Champion Hurdle betting. Even his very good ones he can lay out for a handicap.

Often safer to play the ‘win any race‘ market at this stage but Spanish Harlem is as low as 10-1 in that (Hills).

State man fell at leopardstown at Christmas. Only for that I think he would have gone for a better race at Cheltenham one of the graded novice races.

….33-1 offer with PP for Facile Vega & Galopin des Champs to go unbeaten this season is a fun bet that could give folk a bit of interest.

i put FV up on here for the Champion Bumper @ 25-1 this time last year before he’d seen a racecourse & he obliged. In his stable tour Mullins couldn’t hide what a prospect he is & says he’s a natural over a fence. FV is evens to win any race at the Festival.

GDC was outstanding last season & only a last fence fall at the Festival when we’ll clear of Bob Ollinger blighted his year. I suspect he’ll be aimed at the Gold Cup.

…..unsurprisingly, now into 20-1.

Absolutel notions @Eggs runs today in punchestown. Might be one for your any race at Cheltenham before it runs he's highly rated.

…sorry, Matey, just catching up on this.

I did him 20-1 to win today & any race (he was 25s with PP but I’d already done it with Hills) & was impressed with how he battled back to win. I immediately looked at Albert Bartlett betting & he was into a general 16-1, except BetFred still had him 33s, so I had a little each way on that.

The trainer said after the race that he wants further, so the Bartlett looks most likely. BetFred eventually woke up & cut him into 20s.

Happy to have him in my book.

….I’m hearing he has an entry this weekend at Gowan Park. The fascinating thing about that is it’s the same race Mullins started Galopin des Champs in, who is now a superstar over fences. It’s made me take note, be interesting if he turns up.

GDC won the Martin Pipe Handicap at the Festival that season, crazy to think what he’s done since.

The sensible play is to back him now to win ‘any race’ at the Festival but he’s gone from 33-1 to 10-1 in that market so I’m not keen on that. I suspect there will be a few prices for him to win this weekend & at the festival I’ll be interested in but his entry is over 2m and Mullins says he’s a mid-distance/stayer horse. For me, it suggests 3 possible Festival targets, the Ballymore (2m 4f), the Bartlett (3m) or the Martin Pipe Handicap.

I’ve got him my book at 25-1 with cash-out for the Ballymore, one to watch if he runs this weekend but definitely next season when he goes novice chasing.

….Spanish Harlem won its only hurdle race in France & I’m hearing has been sent to Willie Mullins to train.

You never truly know with these young horses, but 33-1 (35-1 with boost) to win any race at Cheltenham with Hills is worth a couple of quid (only 14-1 SkyBet).

….by the way @blue to the bone, I posted the above on 1st September re Spanish Harlem, I just noticed I did get him in my book at 35-1 and let the good folk of GOT know.

Fingers crossed for this weekend.
