Horse Racing

better days ahead wins the final race. waterfront whispers (f) second.

…it was a very good day, Rita. Better Days ahead and the Hunter Chase winner, pity about Dinoblue.

Now onto the GN. First bet placed was Panda Boy at 66-1 but I fear he won’t get in. I wouldn’t put anybody off backing my favourite horse in training, Galvin, but Mullins has a little squeak of winning the GB trainers championship, so step forward Capadanno. Will be worth watching Mullins at Aintree if he has a chance of that title.

@Eggs

Was a struggle getting a Guinness yesterday :pint2: :pint2:, even at £7.50 a pint 🤬!

…..terrific. The last time I went Gold Cup day was when The Thinker famously won in the snow (1987). I honestly wouldn’t go these days, not so much regarding prices but it’s a bit crazy even if crowds were down. I’m sure you had a great day, you’ve witnessed GDC and hopefully you found a few winners ;)

We had a great day, couple of winners and places helped! It’s mad busy though,
too many “hoorays” who are only there to get hammered, and probably have no interest in the racing!
We had one gang stood behind us for one race, and they couldn’t even work out where the finish line was :confused:!

….quite a few go abroad for the week these days, which is a great option. Pubs and bars in Canaries and mainland Spain have the racing on and it’s very popular.

….i posted this on a racing forum on 10th Dec;

‘Panda Boy @ 66-1 365

I’d like to know if it’s on the agenda but ran well in the Irish equivalent earlier this year as well as coming 3rd the valuable PP Chase last December. He’s already been seen a couple of times this season running against decent opposition over shorter than ideal distances. Will be in that nice 8yo age group next April, 66-1 is a bit of a stand-out with 365.’

In the middle of January his trainer said the GN is his target. He’s a best price 14-1, general 12-1 now. I wouldn’t be backing him at that price and I have some doubts he’ll get in as he needs plenty to come out. Delighted I was on the ball with my early dart. Like always, worth having a few in the portfolio for this race.

…..declaration stage yesterday with 16 withdrawals. 34 will run and Panda Boy is now 35 on the list, I reckon he’s in with one more withdrawal.

I’ve got Mr Incredible 56-1 (now 20-1), Capadanno 40-1 (now 25-1), Galvin 35-1 (now 20-1) and Vanillier 28-1 (now 10-1); that’ll do me but it’s the National and my 95 year old mother-in-law will ask me to £1 e/w on one that will likely beat my book.

Good luck at Aintree everybody.
