HOT TRANSFER NEWS

Am baffled by the reported 8m in the echo. Didn't Benfica just pay 6 odd million to buy him 100%?

So in effect, they'd be selling Manny for just on 2 million?

I thought he was still part owned?

anyone clarify this?

Well to be honest these things dont happen overnight we had the player on loan in January so the club must have been aware of the ins and outs of the deal so I am hoping that the part ownership thing has been sorted as I believed Benfica now 100% of his rights? I thought that happened early on in the summer?!??

So 8m might be an accurate figure of the 1005 transfer fee.

Manuel Fernandes is on his way to Everton after Benfica last night accepted a £6million bid for their 50 per cent stake in the 21-year old midfielder.

Goodison chiefs now face protracted negotiations with Global Sports agency, part of the group embroiled in the Carlos Tevez transfer saga, over the other 50 per cent of the player's rights.

Sources close to the club were adamant the deal would not be jeopardised by the dual ownership and were confident the total outlay would not exceed £8m.

With Everton boss David Moyes having failed to prise Argentina international Luis Gonzalez from Porto, he is trying again to come to a satisfactory agreement.

However, a Benfica spokesman told Sky's official website, www.skysports.com, they do not want to lose the talented international.

The spokesman said: "The player has a deal with us and it does not enter our plans to see him exit this summer."

Although Fernandes made a big impact on Everton fans last season, the player has also suggested he would be happy to stay in Lisbon, even though Manchester City are also interested.

Fernandes said: "I am happy at Benfica and now I am only thinking about a good season ahead."

Moyes had a £10million bid for Gonzalez - another player who was only half-owned by his club - turned down by Porto, who ended debate about the midfielder's future by buying the other 50 per cent of the player last night from his third party owners.

Everton will now expand their quest for a new striker, because Moyes clearly needs re-enforcement having sold James Beattie to Sheffield United for £4million and with youngster James Vaughan out until November with a dislocated shoulder.

Everton are considering allowing Icelandic midfielder Bjarni Vidarsson to gain experience on loan.

The 19-year-old midfielder had a spell on loan with Bournemouth last season but has yet to appear in Moyes' first team.

There are several Coca-Cola Championship sides interested in the player, but he may be happier moving to Holland for a spell - where his brother Arnar plays.

You see all that tells me there is this:

1. Benfica are not interested in selling Fernandes
2. Fernandes is not interested in leaving Benfica

What the opening statement says is this:

1. Manual Fernandes is on his way to Everton, but everything else in the story refutes this claim.

What the rest of the article says is this:

1. Bjarni Vidarsson is being considered a loan out option.
(Even though he has said himself that he is not interested.)

This is what I am talking about, sensationalism in journalism, and I'm sorry MickNick, but it gets on my nerves. We are supposed to get excited by this story? It tells us nothing at all.

It seems you have taken up the mantle I dropped from last season. I have a thing about journalism and had a pop at everyone one of them at some point.
Just take it all with a pinch of salt and don't believe it until they are wearing a blue shirt on the official site.

Well I wouldn't take too much offence normally, its just I studied to be a journalist, and now it seems they write more fiction than fact. And its the only sport that I know that speak so much crap on an hourly basis.

I also got treated like dirt by some journalist when I was on work experience.

The problem with football is nobody knows the truth, and nobody tells the truth, so the whole thing is surrounded with lies and deceit. But who cares? the media don't care because people will still buy the crap rags and sink penny's into Sky.

It really gets on my nerves. :)

If they haven't done so already, it's just a matter of time before the FA disallows any transfers to England that involve these third party ownership stakes.

Too much trouble, too many hands in the pie, and way, way too many conflicts of interest. Not good for the game of football at all.

The tevez deal sent a clear signal on that and it is certainly a big hold up in the case of Fernandes but we seem to be going about it properly so I'm hopefull.
