An optimistic 8.
Unlike some I'm judging only on this window, not the poor previous ones.

Yes, the curse of the full back may yet strike, but look at what was actually available without throwing silly money around and its understandable. Squad looks better balanced.

3 from me.

I hate the farce that the club pulls off with not announcing the underwhelming last minute signing until the last minute. It's either an act to demonstrate how hard they are working right up until the end or the last throes of some kind of death panic.

I get that they are waiting for other clubs to do business so that targets become available to acquire or shift, but the now annual "kicking the tyres" on a deal we were never likely to do also grates.

I read somewhere that Rodriguez's agent had to convince the board that they weren't shifting the player with a fee and this was in the final few days of the transfer window. Now, this might be so much chat, but it smacks of a DoF and board that haven't got a clue of the market and what was going on.

Finally, what was all that Diaz nonsense about? If you've got the money, put it on the table, if not, then keep sifting through the bargain bins and loan market. Something doesn't add up with the finances that were available this time, back in April the then manager was mad confident we would be spending. Even this week Benitez was suggesting we would "bring 3 or 4 more in". Someone is being misled, either managers and fans or fans by managers.

Whatever. It's a 3. Also, Sky Sports News was an eye gouging, brain melting stream of moronic piffle that deserves to go out of business.

The money situation is easily explainable.

They thought they would get the Moise Kean deal done much earlier.

I also think they thought they may get more for Bernard and an offer for Kenny. Ancelott8 turned down £9m for Bernard in January and the club turned down £5m for Kenny in January.

I think they expected £40-£50m in fees much earlier. What they got was 5-6 m with about £30m deferred for two years.

I would give it a 5. Ultimately the club had their hands tied behind their backs due to money constraints, but that is pretty much due to the mismanagement from the board over the last few years.

Gray is a steal, Townsend looks a useful addition but you cannot really get excited about 2 back up keepers. Waiting until just before 11 pm to announce the Rondon signing was sadly predictable and as always, if we get injuries to some of the key players than we are knackered.

Given the FFP and we couldn't spend, better that we did something that expands the options from pre-season, than nothing at all. Won't make us top 4, but every bit helps to making improvements on what turned out to be a bad season just gone...

Bilbo.

Much as I am disappointed with our “buy one get three free” transfer window, not to mention the “three free” have a combined age of 147, it was inevitable. We have been a basket case of a club for some years now, we bought some rubbish, Mrs C is more discerning when it comes to spending than Everton Football Club.
We have managed to shift on a few players who weren’t of much assistance to the club, we still have a few that need to go but it looks like they will run down their contracts before they leave.
Hamez will be interesting, will he see sense and reduce his wage demands so he can move to a club in a country where the window remains open, will he knuckle down and try to show his worth, will Benitez even give him a chance?
On Benitez, some might look at his situation and say he has been handed the poisoned chalice in that he was taken over an unbalanced and underwhelming squad, however I feel he has just been given a get out of jail free card. While the squad we have isn’t that good it is still too good to get relegated but no one would expect a top half finish or a cup win. If Benitez can get us to tenth place and hopefully early exits in the cups so that we don’t expose ourselves to the possibility of injuries to crucial players he will have done well.
While the results will always be the most important statistic following a game a close second will be the list of injuries, Coleman, Digne, Allan, Doucoure, DCL and Richy all need to play as often as possible. We could also include Gray and Gbamin in that list.
So my verdict on this window is a 4, we got cover in goal, we got cover for DCL and we got pace in Townsend and Gray albeit in a limited way, we didn’t get cover for Coleman, we lost our left back cover who had looked the part so any injury to the defence is going to unbalance that unit. We are on a wing and a prayer with Gbamin as our third midfielder, cover in that department is sketchy at best. We are still paying big wages for a number of players whose contribution will be limited this season and if we are being honest about them the more limited the better.

4. Gray started well but lets see in few months, Rondon and Townsend bit meh, cheap but limited. Are we better than when we started? jury out on that one.

No surprise that it's been a bit Meh after the Mosh has been on a managerial bender since he took the reins with all his appointees wanting to bring in their own stiffs.

Could do with some manager stability for 4-5 years and if that's to be FSW then so be it.

Top 4 have disappeared over the horizon. Spurs, the Arse &, given a fair wind, us truffling around for the minor places

I gave it a 7

After the window, I ask are we better or worse than before. I'd say better. But not by much.

Have we reduced wage bill? Yes

But wanted more

Arsenal fans will be overjoyed with that comment .

We are a far better balanced side now we have injected some pace into the line up. People moan that we haven't spent much money but at the end of the day if Gray was 25 million and has given us what he has so far then there wouldn't be so much crying going on here. We've brought in 5 players for barely nothing and that should stand us in a better position for next season.
