Now it's closed my vote is in.

5.

We have unquestionably improved the dynamism of the team for minimal outlay.

We didn't lose anyone we wanted to keep.

We missed out on a couple we'd have liked to bring in. We may get a loan or two in January.

We are paying for our ridiculous supermarket dash spending style over the years.

More concerning is it's clear a big reset is coming next summer with big contracts expiring (good) and potentially top players agitating for a move. (bad)

We will need a Europa League miracle to have any chance at all of keeping our better players happy. Possible, but highly unlikely.

It does have to be said: first time in Moshiri's tenure we've spent smartly. Yeah it's because we've not really spent but it finally allows us to fix some issues without adding new ones in. Hopefully next summer we've got the same manager with a clear idea of what he needs and what types of players we need to fill the spots. And the when we get around to buying players hopefully the money isn't thrown at quick fixes and is spent in a sustainable way on players with room to grow.

I know it sucks to not spend but we really needed a window without wasted money to reset. The team is playing well and for me is enjoyable at the minute. Let's have some fun.

I voted a 6.

Our additions are great squad players which we need, our squad was thin last year.

However we’ve had how many summers to get a RB? Like 20? We’ve had Hibbert, Coleman and that’a been it for 2 decades.

A top CM should also have been a priority - it’d make us really flexible, we are a bit obvious playing Allan and Doucoure every week.

3-4/10 so far, if Rondon bags goals and Townsend and Gray continue their for it will greatly increase. Can't help but think only having Kenny and Delph for backup at fullback will come back to haunt us at seasons end.

Didn’t sign a right back despite it being the most glaring need. Sent our only backup left back on loan without a replacement. If Digne gets injured we’re done since we can only attack down the left as it is. No depth added to central midfield despite our primary backups being a snail, a player who was injured for two years, and a skateboarder. I’m probably being harsh because Gray and Townsend look like great business so far, but the rest of it is negligent. The window was a failure.

4/10, Gray stands out, due to his pace and being a good footballer, who could well get better due to age. As for the rest of our dad's army signings, they will work hard and probably fit Rafael's system, which is a good thing I suppose. Extremely disappointed we never bought a right back, a glaring error and we let our reserve left back to on loan, really strange. Would have loved Diaz, but did Porto ever want Rodriguez ? I doubt it and more and more he looks like a Richarlison replacement.

Rondon is a terribly predictable signing who offers very little.
Townsend is meh.
Gray has been excellent so far but let's see in 6 months.
Begovic...well let's hope we don't really find out.
The "sale" of Kean is frankly worrying given how Juve wriggled out of paying for Coman on a similar conditional obligation to buy.
We have not moved on any of our other deadwood.
We have left ourselves ridiculously short at full back.
It's as if we are happy to tread water in mid table and given up any ambition to be a serious , competitive football club.
The appointment if Benitez now makes sense.

As others have already said, we’re still paying the price for bad decisions in the past.

Yes, I wish we’d have brought in a RB & signed that Diaz.
Yes, I wish we could have offloaded Delph & Tosun & a few more.

But I would take Gray & Townsend over Sigurdssen & Bolasie any day of the week, even at even money. Let alone the stupid price we paid for those 2.

6/10 from me.

Sticking to my 4.
Good:
Gray high potential for low cost
Townsend good pro - still with legs and the right attitude
Getting Bernard out

Bad
Swapping a high potential 20 year old for 31 year old striker on his last legs. Regressive.
No new RB - we have cover in Kenny people seem to forget (and Holgate), but he’s not up to taking over the mantle

Depends on Benitez:
Kept James. If he will take him into the fold it will be a win and great for the fans to be able to watch him.. but I really don’t know what Benitez will do.

I think Richarlison will go too. But we are going to need a big rebuild with all the contracts expiring so will probably need the money from a big sale.

It just feels like we are always rebuilding. Nothing ever falls into place at this club and we are always behind the ball.
This is true for the last few years. We have been continuously dealing with a sea of deadwood that has restricted our ability in the transfer market.

The last of that wave will leave next summer. After that we may be able to return to more normal player trading.

7 but may be getting slightly carried away after our good start.
For a minimal outlay the squad has much better options, if Rafael is prepared to give James a clean slate we have a decent looking side. The full backs are a concern with the lack of depth and its baffling that Brands has failed to address it for what the third year in a row? But at least we have wingers now so may be able to get away with a less attacking full back as backup if anything happens to Seamus or Digne, ie one of the CB's.
