Me and a few mates were chatting about this the other night, how many tries or how long did it take you to pass?

I failed first time for continuing to go 30 down a 20 mph residential road - didn't even realise until the end of the test.

Had a mate fail for going to slow down country lane before amongst other things, seems to be a common one.

Passed first time at 17. Pretty sure I hit the curb doing my 3 point turn but the examiner didn't notice so I passed.

Failed my motorbike test 5 years later because it was absolutely lashing down and I skidded ever so slightly on the emergency stop and he failed me on the spot. I was about 3 minutes in to the test and had to carry on the rest of it knowing I'd already failed. Never been on a bike since.

2nd time. Although on the second, I had to do a 3-point turn on this tight road and I used someone's drive to help me so I thought "crap, I've failed". After that I just chilled out and vaped the rest of it but somehow passed at the end.

….I think I passed at the 3rd attempt.

i’ve never thought of myself as a good driver although my Civil Service career meant lots of motorway trips in hire cars. I have newish cars that mainly sit outside the house as I tend to walk most places since I retired, the last car I traded a few months ago was nearly 3 years old and had just over 2,000 miles on the clock.

Had similar on my first driving test. Lashing down, slight wheelspin leaving test centre, failed me there and then. Told me to continue the test, told him no point and got out and left lol

Passed next time with no minors.

@chicoazul - I passed in Bootle never been there before - & never returned - failed my first test at Garston a pig of a route there got the chief Examiner Franko - asked me to walk the car up a steep hill {that is in the advanced driver car test} - I got back really shaken up as I was in a Morris Minor car he had me out over an hour - I had more Xs on my sheet than a pools' coupon lol -

Next instructor stated Bootle was a breeze in a mini car - 6 weeks later went there - not knowing the area I drove safely only out 20 minutes passed easy ;)

I passed my Motorbike test 1st time at Widnes - ....

First time pass after 3 lessons.

I had been driving around fields since I was about 14 in pick ups etc so just had lessons to brush up on 'how to pass.'

My last lesson was in the hour before my test and the instructor said let's book in for next week (great vote of confidence.)

Did the test in own car and passed him driving home. Gave him a flash of my lights and a good flick of the Vs for good measure.

Still satisfying to this day.

Two test routes up here at one time.
Instructor took me on the wrong one on lessons until my penultimate one.
Had an arl ass tester who failed me,rightly so,I was a nervous wreck.
2no test was a success the tester was from out of town cos Aberdeen was overbooked, not much older than me,felt at ease and passed.
1987 ,it was a lot easier back then.
I also consider myself a rubbish driver, which, considering my current employment is shocking......

Third time.

First time I was accused of not looking in my mirrors enough - which wasn't true. I took then one lesson with an instructor (previously my dad had taught me) who told me to turn my head to the mirrors rather than just move my eyes.

Second time a few weeks later I was the last test on a Friday afternoon. He failed me for driving down the middle of a road where cars were parked on both sides with just enough space to pass through. It was rhe Road where the rest centre was. Clearly he had passed his alloted quota and was looking for a reason. Having saved up fir the test as in impoverished student I was livid. I followed him back into the test centre and used many, many words that would not pass the GOT language filter.

Third time, 4 tears later, different town, I had the driving test examiner inspector test me. Gulp. He passed me and thanked me for an enjoyable and comfortable ride!

Obviously this makes me the best driver on the planet.

(Worst driver in my family - my sister .... First time pass)
