How many tries to pass your driving test?

3rd time. I had my instructor in the back for the first and about a half mile away from the test centre I came to a set of double lights at a junction I went through the first on amber and then stopped at the second lot when they went red. To this day I’ve no idea why I did it I heard an audible “oh ffs” from the back and saw the examiner make a rather prompt scribble next to me.
2nd test I failed to read the number plate before we got in the car from the car park even though the jobsworth made me attempt it from absolutely miles away, told him to “stick it” (using different words) when he’d said I had failed before even getting in the car.
3rd go and no minors but I was wearing a low cut t-shirt with a bit of chest on show which my then girlfriend, now wife, told me helped her to pass first time

Passed first time after 6 lessons …. No idea how. I was 25 at the time and previously had no interest in driving but decided to learn. I passed on 4th July 2000…. Independence Day

I passed on my 6th attempt 18 years ago - 4 of those i failed i thought i passed. and i was going to give up on the 4th failed attempt, but having spent so much i carried on.

I had the same woman on 4 of these tests and it was her that passed me, while i had the big main DVLA boss for the other who failed me for a simple go pass 2 massive fields where ever i was (the type you see animals in the distance) and say i was going to fast, as there had being a speed reduction - though there were no signs literally anywhere lol

Me and a few mates were chatting about this the other night, how many tries or how long did it take you to pass?

I failed first time for continuing to go 30 down a 20 mph residential road - didn't even realise until the end of the test.

Had a mate fail for going to slow down country lane before amongst other things, seems to be a common one.

It was four and even then I drifted through a red light because I could not change down the gear due to a lousy gearbox. Instructor braked and let me off with it, passed me. It were different in the olden days tha'h knows.

Failed the first, second one the BSM car speedo decided to pack in and the examiner spotted it and failed me on a speed related point. BSM obviously had to pay for the third test which I passed…..

Passed first time on December 23rd. First bump on the 26th and another accident on 30th. Glad to say I’ve improved a lot since then.
