How predictable is Moyes?

Player Valuation: 1p
This is something I've been wondering about for a while, we all say Moye's line ups are quite predictable and that he should switch things around a bit more but I've been surprised by at least one player in each of our lineups so far.

So I was thinking I should start a thread where we all guess his line up and subs, every game. If he's as predictable as I'd expect, we should all get 10 or 11 every time. I think it'd be interesting to see just how often he actually surprises us and so presumably the opposition versus how often we can read him like a book.

My guess vs Wigan is that he'll play:

Howard, Hibbert, Distin, Jagielka, Baines, Coleman, Fellaini, Rodwell, Drenthe, Osman, Cahill.

And he'll bring on Barkley, Saha and Heitinga.

I think the thing is that he doesn't surprise us where it matters. He might make a few changes but our general style of play and over-reliance on certain people is incredibly predictable. Last season, if Cahill was fit (or even half-fit) we all knew what formation we'd be lining up with and that Cahill would be playing behind the striker. Even if other player's warranted that position more.

However he dropped Neville last week so maybe things are changing. Hopefully.

Anyway, I'd go for:

Howard
Neville Jagielka Distin Baines
Fellaini Rodwell
Coleman Osman Drenthe
Cahill

With Saha brought on in the 65th-ish minute and Barkley and Vellios in the 80th-ish minute, assuming we're not winning. If we are winning then he'll probably bring like 3 defenders on and go 10-0-0.

Howard, Neville, Distin, Jagielka, Baines, Coleman, Fellaini, Rodwell, Bily, Osman, Cahill.

And he'll bring on Barkley, Saha and Drenthe.

He's the most predictable manager I've ever seen. You can design a gameplan against Everton two seasons in advance.

I agree. I'm just happier when I have statistics to back up what I think is true from casual observation.

We all are, but statistics can be manipulated and interpreted differently. If Moyes changed his two CBs and GK that would technically mean you might get 3 wrong. But the dynamic of the team wouldn't change in the slightest. Whereas he could make a single personnel change, but said change could be Tim Cahill for an out and out striker, and we might switch to a new formation. Although that would only count as one change statistically, it would actually make Moyes look a lot less predictable tactically. He won't do either of these things, like, but you get my point.

Statistics are only useful in context, I agree. But I can supply the context, which changes aren't important to the shape of the side, which were forced by injuries we didn't know about, myself and not read too much into stuff. I still think it'll be an interesting thing to find out just how well we can predcit him.

As do I mate, hence my participation! I was just getting an early disclaimer in, if you like. Some people (*ahem* BILLYCOPPER FFS) sometimes put too much weight into statistics and it can cloud sensible reasoning.
