The very opposite of every Man Utd fan I've ever met. And I went to school in Wigan so I've met a LOT. Completely unprepared to admit when they have substandard players, and massively take the hump when people rips the pee out of them. Absolutely no sense of humour.
Last season they just blamed on Moyes, and by osmosis, took the mick out of Everton for producing a second-rate manager. Certainly never blamed the playing staff, or, heaven forbid, Fergie.
You seem like a decent sort though Jim.
That's fair enough, I can't dispute people you've met who I haven't. Me and my fellow United supporting family and friends ALL blamed Fergie for last season, not Moyes. Moyes was out of his depth - did I ever want him near Man Utd? Not a chance, I always said it would be a BIG mistake appointing him or Martin O'Neill (there was a lot of talk about MON being next manager in the early 00s).
But, it wasn't Dave's fault Fergie left him with a squad which couldn't compete. They also promised him time - and promising a manager like Moyes time is a bad idea in the first place. We should have held interviews, a proper screening process.
As for United fans taking the mick out of Everton "for producing a second-rate manager." I don't know anyone who has done that - again, I am not disputing this - I just find it silly. It's not Everton's fault Moyes wasn't a good fit for Man Utd.
The thing with our club and our supporters is that all of the younger lads & lasses based in the US, or Thailand etc, who have never been to a game but have grown up with United winning trophy after trophy, didn't know how to handle a year as bad as last season. It really did bring out the worst in SOME Man Utd supporters from what I've read here today. But again, what I call the 'real fan', the bloke who has been going to the game since the 80s, well, we were ok with it (my lot were anyway). We had seen us be rubbish under Big Ron and we were experiencing it again, on a far lesser scale of course.
There's no getting away from the fact that Manchester United is a monster. It's huge. Sometimes I wish we wasn't so big, because we do attract the glory hunters, the jonny-come-latelys. But would I change our history? The evenings at the Camp Nou in 99 and Moscow in 08? Would I heck. I loved every minute of it.
I just wish that SOME fans would have a bit more patience, and class.
