Hes not a defender though he's a keeper, I can understand closing down a forward if he's bearing down on goal with no defender in front of them, suarez was at an implossible angle and not hitting it there and then would have given the defence a chance to reposition. Secondly he wasn't the last man/ defender which is the rule for keepers, a step in the other direction and Baines cuts the angle which he does, if Howard doesn't go MIA were laughing at Suarez.

when the ball got to suarez baines was our closest defender. Baines was on the floor in the middle of the goal with the liverpool forward. if howard hadn't of gone out, suarez would made himself a better angle (under no pressure) and slotted in the corner. baines had just got up when suarez shot.

I don't think so mate, with Baines on his feet he's in the way of the centre and back post the goal is covered, all he had to do was cover the rear post, no reason at all for Howard to rush out especially with a full box.

I'm with Harry on this one

Think Howard did everything right - without closing Suarez down, the angle could have been opened up easily and it would have been a simple goal. As it happened, Howard going out forced Suarez to shoot from a more acute angle - in fact, Suarez's shot was going well wide if it hadn't hit Baines, so Howard did his job.

No win situation there, if Howard had stayed on his line, there was nobody to close Suarez down and you can guarantee there would have been fingers pointed at him today.

I love Howard but I think his years are catching up with him now. Some Keepers can go on until 40, like Friedel etc.. But his mistakes seem to be happening more frequently than ever now.

Makes me think was the Butland 'bid' on deadline day genuine after all?

Is it just me or does Howard perform better when he's wearing the US jersey? I watched them at the World Cup 2010 if i remember correctly and he made an outstanding performance. In the Premier League he is just average.

Give over mate. Average ?!

Howard is a quality keeper and one who fully deserves his place in the starting line up.

Mate there's absolutely no chance we would spend £6m+ on a goal keeper.

Besides, the club flatly denied any interest in the lad.

Just watched it again lids from multi angles but especially from behind the goal, Baines wasn't on the ground once, he's covered the centre of the goal, Coleman is actually on the line of the back post, the only place Suarez can score is the big gaping hole left by Howard - actually Howard did worse then I thought really poor decision!

Its not even a debate it's the laws of matter!

i'm not too sure why he came off his line for the first, it was a tight angle and it meant suarez could shoot rather than try and pick out the one other player in the box.

He did the exact same thing later on too.

He couldnt do much for the second really but he worried me the way he moved for the ball when he went down to the ground and swung at the ball with the wrong hand.

I'm not saying he's a bad keeper. But I think there are some better ones in the Premiership. If he's in good form he's a world class keeper, no doubt. But he had better times than now.

He tried to save the second with his foot, if he had tried his hand he would have got it - he was wrong footed and was at pace so I'll give the benift of the doubt! (use your hands ffs)!
