Got home about half an hour ago. We were a bit crap weren't we ?

First half, going forward, we looked half decent, but second half we never really looked like scoring.

Alcaraz had a 'mare and Barry wasn't much better. For all Bobby's talk about philosophy we just had too many passengers today. Jagielka and Baines put a decent shift in for 90 minutes, as did Oviedo when he came on. Can't fault Kone for effort either, though, for obvious reasons, he tired after 60 or 70 minutes. But, when it's not going well, although we need to stick to our possession principles, we need to fight to get the ball back when we lose it, and we're just not doing that.

It's not rocket science, I'm sure Martinez knows this too. Big test for him now, and Kenwright and the board too who need to give him the time he needs.

Why do you think the players refuse to adopt a pressing mentality to win back the ball ? lazy players or management orders.

Bit of both. Attacking players are probably being told to leave it to the defensive midfielders and the defence. To be fair, that happened last season too, and it worked. But what we're seeing at the moment is players who are close to the action not busting a gut to get involved. Compare the work Baines, for example, was putting in trying to close down Hull compared to some of the other players on the pitch. When you're getting beat on a regular basis, heads can drop.

From a fans perspective, if you see us getting beat but see some effort, then you might not like the result, but at least you feel like the players have some pride. At the moment, we're not seeing that from everyone. The lack of effort is one of the main reasons why the team are getting booed. Put some effort in, and we'll put up with things not working.

Mirallas went of today (feeling sore) and from what I hear Ron Vlaar went off for villa with a man utd related injury. Is this the end for kev or was he genuinely crocked.

exactly , I watch Barkley and he has a player on the ball 2 yards away and he doesn't even try to hunt him down. Not just picking ross others do it too, just looks wrong to me.

It was a big test for him weeks ago and he has responded with nothing, absolutely nothing.

Can't really argue with that.

If he hadn't done so well last season then I think his position would be precarious. His success in taking us into Europe should, and probably will, mean he gets the chance to show he's got the metal to deal with the situation.

going over a few things in me mind i came to the following:

  • My lord my lord are Barry and Alcaraz slow. I honestly cant tell if they were even really 'running' with Jelavic's goal. It honestly looked like whoever was 'chasing' him was jogging.
  • Love Oviedo, looked very lively. Hope they can figure out somewhere for him.
  • Coleman looked pretty good today, especially in the second half.
  • Baines looked decent playing in the middle, made some nice passes to:
  • Lukaku. Was a bit infuriating when he came on as Kone was moving more, but thats not his style, is it? A few balls were played where he could run onto them and he did something with them. Odd, isnt it? Playing to a players strengths?

Overall tho....jebus....

oh, one last thing, it surprises me to no end how much time we give the opposition with the ball. Almost never harangue them. Just peculiar.

Not long back from game. It was just a disastrous performance. To me, both sides were average for until they scored and then we just never looked like scoring. Very worrying because once behind we don't look capable of turning it around. Plus teams like Hull just lob it forward of in the space behind Coleman and Baines and our defence is turrned and under pressure. We're simple to get at. This 3 (ageing) back three simply doesn't work. 5 away defeats on the bounce is evidence of that. We're not even drawing now!!
