Hummel

I do not get the obsession with having Nike or Adidas. They don't need to pay decent money to put their name on us. Hummel do and that's what makes it the best deal for the club. We are basically their flagship club, will have bespoke kits and exposure.

This isn't for jogging attire, or sportswear. This is for Everton. A unique industry in which regardless of the clothes designer, the product ends up getting purchased anyway if the kit looks nice, REGARDLESS of the brand.

I get it may be frustrating if you can't go in to your local store across the world just to get an Everton top, but the reality is that is the case for extreme majority. Having Nike or Adidas doesnt change that. Same complaints were happening when we had Nike.

Nike were the worst kits we have had a long, long time.

Disagree. This beauty was great.

and this, even though it was a template.

I agree with you that the black kit was boss, but you have kind of proved his point that you didn’t pick out a home top.
Which is really the point when judging shirts.and on that basis Nike were the worst we’ve had in a while.

Nike is lazy at kits and EFC obviously wouldn't get top billing. I do think Nike and Adidas are best for brand exposure and growth, but there is something to be said about being a flagship. I have no familiarity with the quality of Hummel (designs appear to vary from horrific to excellent), but it will be interesting. Brand recognition for Hummel in the US has to be pretty close to zero, I assume it's middling in the UK?

Nah pretty unknown apart from a few kits in the 80's.

I think the brand exposure is only good when they are one of their big clubs. How many Leicester City, Wolves or Sheffield United shirts do you see in the shops? All adidas clubs, all doing well in the Premier League (one even won it a few years back) and their shirts are virtually non existent outside of Leicester, Sheffield or Wolverhampton.

Followed up by Le Coq. I liked the nike home kit with the one white bands, not the two rings.

Ultimately EVERY brand has kits that are good, bad and ugly. Thats the point.

Basically yeah. Denmark got it in early 86 and Southampton seemingly from 87-89. I guess similar to now where the kit makers usually debut new shirt templates/styles just before international tournaments and then clubs team receive them the following season.

Big fan of the famous Spurs Hummel kit from the same sort of time. Doubt you'd be allowed a design like this anymore though due to kit regulations

I never knew that kit was Hummel. That was a quality shirt that.

Makes sense. I do think well-known brands add some level of credibility for new supporters (outside of Europe mainly), same for sponsors. I don't think that's a focus and perhaps it doesn't need to be. But I think solely from marketing, Adidas+Coca-Cola is going to immediately strike someone as a bigger brand than Umbro+betting company.

Brighton is a decent example. Nothing to say about their growth/prospects, but I think Nike and American Express give them a bit of immediate marketing cred here in the States. But as you said, it's not like you can walk into a store and find Brighton stuff.
