Yeah. Let's just give up and go back to the Moyes years....

No wonder we don't get nice things.
I guess it comes down to balancing the options. It may be worth risking going for an unproven quality. On the other hand Moyes has a proven track record, has built good teams in the past on a budget and is very professional in his approach.

I would be intrigued to see what he could do here with more money.

You're on a wind up. I'm out.

No shouts for Eddie Howe? The man has made a PL club out of Bournemouth.

I think we would have to move at least 3 or 4 candidates down the ranking order if he was to become a serious contender. I don't see him as being our manager, though I would be less inclined to dismiss him outright than in the recent past. He has done well at Bournemouth but needs a more broader level of experience to cope with a big challenge.

If we want to go into the past for a still living manager who brought tangible success we should appoint Royle. Everyone since has been a different shade of failure.
Moyes isn’t that old though - he is 54. He could even lay foundations for someone more progressive in the future

On the other hand maybe he would flourish with EFCs resources?

No - I just still remember us being the best outside the top four even when being outspent by Spurs, Villa and the like. It is not easy when the likes of City, Man Utd and Chelsea can spend fortunes

I think he is capable of moving to a so-called bigger club somewhere, and springing a surprise, but I think him being in the dugout here would be viewed as a comparative disappointment.

And I'm not at all sure the new manager will have a big pot. In fact, if Brands is to be appointed, the focus will shift to youth, sustainability, and value for money - longer-term planning and quite rightly so as I see it.

There are no guarantees with our job - I think its going to be a long haul to fix us and whoever does come in needs to be looking to stay for at least 5 years. For that reason alone, I wouldn't be dismissing most candidates out of hand as I think the next good fit at EFC will probably be someone who comes from left-field. We can't appoint Pochettino or Simeone but we need to find the next one.

The next manager will not have a big pot, we will be a lot more cautious having wasted the Stones and Lukaku money. We couldn’t bring in top names the last two years when the media were bigging the ‘project’ up, so it will be even harder now. Allardyce mentioned cutting our squad by 15, that will be very difficult to do with the contracts some will be on.
