Imagine the game show host Brendan Rodgers at the helm with his David Brent one liners.

Unless he’s bringing Suarez and sterling it’s a massive swerve for me.

joke of the week so far

Not saying he has been offered the job, am saying that I have some intel that says he has been initially sounded out about the job. As I said initially, I am sure this part of a process that will include a number of names. I'm not surprised he is being looked at (and I'm sure he feels he has unfinished business) but I would hope someone other than him.

Would Love: Fonseca, Emery, Tuchel, Mancini.

Would Accept: Silva, Jockanovic, Blanc.

Do not want: Benitez, Rodgers, Howe.

Would fume: BFS, Moyes.

What has Silva or Jokanović achieved that Howe hasn't?

Eddie Howe has actually achieved more than the pair of them combined in the top 5 European leagues, and done it by playing progressive football and on a shoestring budget, and plays the kind of football that would get even better with more quality at his disposal. Plus he's only 40 so will get even better. Don't turn your nose up at him just because he's English.

And I think a lot of neutrals like me would like to see Eddie Howe given an opportunity at a big club, so Everton would instantly create a lot of goodwill if they hired someone like him rather than the latest fly-by-night name in football.

Eddie Howe smells his dogs farts.

To me, Howe is just an English Martinez, and I lived through that hell already

Dyche has done well with comparatively meagre funds, so if he had a chance to work with a bigger budget I think his play style would change slightly as he'd have better tools to work with

I want defensive stability combined with a good work ethic and a desire to get forward

Howe fails at the first one, is middling in the second and decent at the third

No thanks

A shoestring budget? He's spent about £100m since they got promoted 3 years ago.

Sean Dyche has done amazing, but let's be real here, he packs the defence out and soaks up the pressure, then tries to nick a goal. There is no evidence (yet) he can adapt.

All I'm saying is, if you are after a speedy left winger or a skilful number 10, you don't sign big oaf who plays at centre back and ask them to adapt.

Must try harder you wet wipe

I think the more pertinent questions are why would he come here when he'll have a choice of teams to pick through?, and why would he come to a club that needs to have a complete overhaul of its squad?

Never in a million years will he arrive here. No decent manager will.

Silva is a very good compromise for us now. He's available and free.
So is Fonseca in a few months

I would rather a packed defence and narrow wins than a flimsy one with some high scoring losses

The difference between Dyche and Allardyce is that he just doesn't accept defeat against the big sides. He's cagey yes, but ultimately he wants to win

His Burnley side have some impressive scalps to their name and are deservedly pushing for Europe

Give him a real budget and he'd not only have a chance to bring in a better calibre of player but he'd also get the ones we have working to their full potential as well

You bang on and on about wanting to see Howe get a chance so an English coach can manage a big club, yet you don't extend the same courtesy to Dyche, who is also English and has shown to be far more deserving of the step up than Howe has

Howe hasn't come close to achieving what Dyche has done with Burnley, and that's with more to spend and a better calibre of player to call upon

Not even a contest for me, Dyche > Howe

You all say this yet as soon as the Liverpool job becomes available every man and his dog wouldn’t want a young British Manager near it. Kopites in the media just want to lump Everton with poor managers. Thankfully we’re adept at doing it ourselves.
