If he's not making himself available then it falls to others to try to act as playmakers, and they fail.

He'd get more touches per game if Gana stopped passing to the opposition.

We're diluting his game playing him alongside another defensive midfielder, and he's god awful on the ball. His talent is off it, so lets stop asking him to play box to box.

Yup.

He’s being forced to play as an 8 because Schneiderlin can only play as a 6. It’s why although Davies will drive us crazy with giveaways and poor decisions some games, it’s worth it to have Gana play farther back.

I don’t mind that he creeps up into the final third every now and then as his passing is underrated and he can recover quickly. Morgan is just a complete passenger.

But yes, let him play as a ball winner, let someone else play the box to box or even more of a deep playmaker. That’s what I THINK Silva thinks Schneiderlin can be, and occasionally he can spray the ball wide, but he can’t close on or win the ball from anyone.

I just think yesterday he pushed everyone too high. I know he wanted to jump on those jokers, but it was just too much for his personnel.

Of course, he completed more passes than anyone else on the team and had the highest completion rate of anyone beside Schneiderlin who doesn’t pass it forward and played half the game. But why let facts stand in the way of a characterization.

Sigurdsson doesn't have to wait for the ball to come to him to get involved, he can go and demand the ball, when Schneiderlin or Gana have it, he can go and take it off them, at the end of the day we're always being told he's a quality player, and that's what quality players will do.
 

He's a number 6 not an 8. He needs an Arteta style player alongside him hopefully Gomes is the this type of player and get a fit soon. He played well alongside Gareth Barry in his first season as he did the tackling and Barry did the passing.
 
Absolutely great midfield kicker. Should be played as what he's good at which is sitting infront of the defence and tidying up and harrying.

His positive attributes should not be changed and he shouldn't be expected to be something he's not due to wanting to shoe horn him in to a different role or to make up for other players deficiencies

We may find out one day what his ACTUAL position is.
