Idrissa's imperious form contributed to our success in the last part of the previous season. He suddenly developed, in addition to his defensive abilities, better distribution skills. It flummoxed a lot of us blues watching. Where did this extra gear come from? I suspect he was playing for his move. Now I'm not saying he wasn't trying his absolute best previously. He's always struck me as an obvious grafter. However when a top team courts you it can only fill you with pride and confidence in your own abilities. Some players let it go to their heads and drop off that 1 or 2 % and it shows. For others it fuels them to improve even further on the pitch. I suspect he would've known that he would've had to continue to impress to push through his dream move. I mean if he'd played poorly maybe PSG would've reconsidered.
What concerns me is that how we replace that tremendous player we all saw during the latter part of last season. He was a behemoth and I wish we were not selling him, although if the deal collapsed maybe his form would to!

I can't imagine Gueye would have even looked at a contract that was any shorter, and it's not like he is falling apart. He has loads of years left
Yeah players usually wanna ensure they are well paid till at least the 33-34 kinda age. And wont entertain contracts that won't give them that kind of security.
Defensive midfielders usually play well into their 30s though, he will be slightly less effective when the pace drops off a bit though. But his greatest asset is positioning himself to break up play
