Chelsea made a run for him last summer, PSG are definitely interested. They've been missing a player like Gana ever since they stupidly moved on Matuidi.

I think it's so amusing that many on this board think our fan base overrates him, yet he's absolutely critical to how we play and CL club are interested in him.

He isn't going to psg, and yes those other sides have much better players

And all are top 6 sides which we are no where near. I would personally have him ahead of say Matic as well.

For me, in terms of players we need to upgrade to push on, he'd be at the bottom of the list. He does what he is in the team to do barring a few frustrating passes per game. But what he does do well, he mostly does excellently.

I could pick far more glaring faults in our other players, who simply cannot do the required role they are in the team for. Take Bernard for example. He has a great first touch, can go round a player and then his end product is an absolute embarrassment. A couple of good assists against Leicester and Burnley and that is it. And that inability to do the actual tasks required is a criticism of the vast majority of the players in our current side.

Just because we’re completely incompetent without him in the team doesn’t mean he’s a top player. He’s a decent holding midfielder with limited passing ability who occasionally has runs of very good form. He’s still been a part of several midfields who have often been dominated even on their own pitch. I’d have no problems upgrading until hat position if Brands identified someone more comfortable on the ball and more consistent.

Right now he's irreplaceable. Maybe as we adjust how we play with Marco in charge that will change but take him out of the current set up and we open up way too much. The lack of creativity falls at the feet of many other players first.
I actually think without him Silva can't play anywhere near how he'd like to play. His ability to cover both sides of the pitch and help cover for our fullbacks when they press forward and lose the ball is critical. I don't think many here realize that. It's got nothing to do with his ability on the ball. Without him, we seriously have no way to attack from the wide spots of the pitch. We just get gashed.

Another take is:

1 -- His charging around nullifying danger can backfire which leaves holes all over the defence.

2 -- If we had a 'screening' player they would slot back between the 2 centre backs to go into a 3 when needed. That works better rather than Gana charging all over and leaving Gomes alone in the centre...

Also if the rest of the team bothered to actually show for the ball than Gana wouldn't have to be everywhere.

No matter where the ball is on the pitch he always seems to be providing a passing option.
