Sad thing about black boots these days is that the only time pro's use them, is when they're in between deals with companies for sponsorships. :(

Is that right? I noticed Bolasie was wearing them but the Senegalese Honey Badger had new black and coloured boots on

Sadly it's the way the boot industry has gone. With new boots coming out every six - twelve months and with two colourways at release and new colourways every two months after release.

There's so much money in the football boots industry it's rediculous. Normally after a year a 150£ boot will be available at a 50-60% reduced price. You'll basically see players in the new colourways a week or two before release so the kids (and adults) can go get their idols new boots.

The only boots which don't drop much value are the black boots, but these make up an incredible small amount of sales these days because no pro's wear classic black boots.

Is that through player choice or purely the boot manufactures telling them exactly what boots to wear. Say for arguments sake sombody as big as Ronaldo turned round and would only wear World Cups because he found them best, would he be able to do it and still be sponsored (obviously by adidas haha)

A bit of column A and a bit of column B.

Usually they decide along with the company (sponsor) what type of boot to wear, and are then supplied with the boots through the season. Boot types fall into different models (silos). The most common silos are speed, control, power and heritage. The companies of course prefer when the type of player/customer they market the shoes at fits their idea.

Most players then just take the ludicrious amount of money and a lot of boots and merchandise.

You very rarely see pros in copas or world cups anymore, simply because they won't make the companies the same amount of money. One thing is, these boots easily last an entire season + leather and craftmanship costs money, and it's easier to pump out new fancy microfibre or synthetic boots which they know the customers will buy.

Another thing is that a black boot just doesn't stand out as much, and so won't give the brand the same attention.

Thanks for the break down pal, very interesting
