Idrissa Gueye

He's definitely been the success story of the season so far. He offers much more going forward than the other candidates for that position in our squad (McCarthy and Besic).

He has been a great buy but I don't think I've ever seen a player with less ability in front of goal.

In my opinion, Gueye has been our best player all season comfortably. Out of the current squad, other than Lukaku, i'd say he's our key player and one of the only ones Koeman will definitely want to keep.

However, what do the McCarthy haters have to say about his pathetic ability in front of goal and his lack of goals? Because if you go through pages in the McCarthy thread, people were ridiculing McCarthy for that, and yet Gueye appears to be even worse in that regard.

I would like to add that other than having a bit more composure in front of goal, I don't think Gueye is in the team for scoring so it doesn't bother me a great deal. But he can't shoot, can't pick out a through ball, often plays the ball sideways and backwards, shirks the opportunity to shoot even when he has a chance and rarely plays long balls.

So is he going to come in to question for that?

He can actually run with the ball, he DOES play forward passes and tries to keep the play moving forward when the opportunity is there. His interceptions and tackles outnumber almost everyones stats in the PL. With those stats and what we see of him his goals ratio shouldn't be a stick to beat him with.

I do agree with you, but I found the comments about a lack of goals from McCarthy equally as ridiculous when he was coming in for criticism, but some on here were still demanding it from him.

Gueye isn't in the team for that, and to be honest neither is Besic or McCarthy. Unfortunately our most creative and best passer is a 35 year old coming to the end of his career along with an injury prone Darron Gibson.

We need a creative player alongside Gueye, or whoever plays there whilst Gueye is away. Davies may be a good option but I would still like to see someone like Mata who is capable of opening up defences and is able to quickly get attacks started.
