If we end up selling McCarthy we'll get at least twice that fee, maybe more, so you could argue it might be good business to make a profit and get a player who does the same job who just had a far better season.

I've heard some Villa fans moan but that's the type of player that is really hard to judge, and I'd trust someone like Steve Walsh to make the right call over disillusioned and (rightfully) miserable fans of a team who have just been relegated.
You think we'd get 25m for McCarthy?

I'd say between 10 - 15m.

Who is going to offer us twice the 13m we paid for him?! No chance!

Our fans really are the worst.

Moan at no signings; moan at a potential signing.

Why don't you all just give RK and Steve Walsh the benefit of the doubt, considering they have achieved and done more in football than any of us ever have?

Steve Walsh had a huge part to play in Leicester winning the league through approaching/signing players who didn't carry a reputation/world famous name.

He counts as a homegrown player doesn't he? Plus everyone is going for overinflated fees and we paid £13m, so we'd want more than that.

The only reason no one will be paying £15m+ for this lad is because he has a release clause. I'm not saying whether I think Gueye is a £15m+ player by the way, just saying that even crap players go for over £10m at the moment!

EDIT: Yes sorry, I mean twice Gueye's fee.

Hes not the hollywood signing everyone has been built up to expect and I was a bit underwhelmed when I heard but like you say- have to have a bit of faith in the team to deliver. His stats look pretty good though eh.

I think Everton fans in 2016 are at their worst in my lifetime. We used to be negative and rightfully so, things were bleak. But now we've had a weird mix of expectation and entitlement thrown into that negativity, and it's created a hideous swirl of petulance.

like he talked about yesterday if he wants to play a high pressing game and winning the ball back quicker you are going to want the player who made the most recoveries and interceptions in the league cant get kante get him get

There are broadly 3 options that are at play here;

1) We are looking to bring him in as well as Witsel and/or Carvalho.
2) Our targets are turning us down and we are looking elsewhere.
3) Walsh has identified this lad and Koeman fancies him.

I suspect as with all things a mixture of the 3. I have little doubt that this lad would have been on lists that Leicester had as he is almost a clone of Kante.

The other point I'd note to people, is Carsley looked an absolute carthorse playing in a 2 man midfield in 2003/4 in a side that finished 17th. He then moved back to a defensive midfield role and was part of a side that finished 4th, looked a very competent defensive midfield player and played in sides that generally finished in the top 6. When his role was simplified and better players put in front of him he thrived. I wonder if Gueye moves clubs if something similar will happen.

His numbers look good, he intercepts and tackles very well and is comparable to Kante in that regard. Villa paid 9 million last summer which was big money even a year ago. He was highly thought of in France and in a different system may thrive.

I think Barry will leave, and I suspect McCarthy will as well. I hope Cleverley goes alongside them but there is a chance that Gibson may. I wouldn't assume if we bought him there are no other central midfielders. He may be a lad who is brought in to play 15 games a season in tough fixtures with a clear MO of breaking up play. At the fee we are paying, and what we are offloading others for that makes sense.

Walsh is going to have a list of targets at a reasonable price. I think this will increasingly resemble our transfer strategy in the short term as at Leicester he didn't scout big names. That may well change over time. I think the big names are people Koeman has identified. I think we will continued to pursue both.

I deem that is due to quite a lot of fans are expecting proven statement signings, big names like Witsel and Carvalho. I see no problem in signing Gueye cos I believe one or two current CM will move on. I just hope this guy is signed as a squad player not a starter. Barely personal wishful thinking because who wouldn't want to sign big names?

Erm, have you seen my FIFA 16 record?!

One hundred million war chest add wages to that, will not get in the 4-5 players we need IMO -so I feel one big signing and hopefully bargain gems to revitalise our squad adding to the likes of Tom Davis who I hope will play a few games this season!

Just in-boxed a Villa fan I know who says he would be a fantastic signing for us.

I don't know what that means, but I am pretty sure he has seen more of him than most of us lot.

Solid player, poor mans Kante good addition to the squad but obviously not the type of player to make others want to join. Will have to wait until Stones goes to fund a bigger name I think.
