We had that attitude with Martinez, and that ended well

FWIW, I have no real opinions about this lad. 7 Million is cheap in the current climate, so if he doesn't work out at least he hasn't broken the bank

He's probably worth a gamble in that case

But no, I don't think we should treat any manager of DoF as an omnipotent force who can do no wrong, because that sort of attitude led to the Cult of Martinez, which was thoroughly unbearable

People should feel comfortable criticising Koeman, even if he is only just in the door

Think the big glaring holes in the squad are at holding mid. We arguably don't have any player who is a natural at it. Barry McCarthy Gibson Besic probably all prefer being the player next to the sitting midfielder either spraying the ball around or driving box to box. For me it's one of the reasons we've been so poor defensively and at times unable to stop teams getting on top of us. I'm hoping Koeman sees Carvalho as his first choice defensive mid, Gueye as cover, Witsel next to him in the box to box role. Mata at ten. If Barkley is first choice then perhaps Mata goes wide of a front three. Besic Gibson Cleverley as midfield cover in various positions. Dowell on loan or cover out wide, and Davies covering right back or out on loan. Barry and McCarthy moved on.

I'd actually prefer just not to buy Witsel and move Barkley backwards but the preseason games seem to suggest Kodman might not be doing that.
