ok - if we’re near the bottom would you change your mind? - look at the squad mate with the players out it’s terrible
Second half last night (and other games this season) shows the players aren't as crap as we all make them out to be when they're not set up terribly and spend 45 minutes arguing amongst themselves because they don't know what the manager wants them to do.

1st half looked like we hadn't worked on anything in training shape etc yet the manager blamed it on lack of character

Seems another season is consigned to the bin in so far as actually achieving anything. In the hope that relegation can be avoided it would be better to not spend in January given the pitfalls of the January window. Better to wait until the summer with hopefully a sensible recruitment plan

we’ve had how many consigned tho?

the board haven’t a f clue

and nor do we what direction the club is going

Yep, and to top it off I think we've already conceded the same number of goals from set pieces as the whole of last season, with the same players available. Nobody can convince me that's only a problem with the players.

I agree....I think that even if the club board made perfect decisions every time from now on it will still take many years just to get competitive. Sad but just being realistic

The implication being that the choice is let Benitez spend, or sack Benitez?

Because honestly, I think that's what it comes down to. The window we spend in - January or summer - is less material than who spends the money. Despite the arguments about value for money in January.

Personally, I think this is a rough patch Benitez will get through, and things will start to pick up again. I'd rather Benitez, as a manager who has seen the weaknesses in the squad first hand, has a say in patching those holes, as opposed to a whole new manager who would need to learn the same hard truths about the squad.

I'm discounting Brands in this discussion, because he's either doing badly, or not being allowed to be a Director of Football. Like you say, we don't know.
This is the point that I can't seem to shake at the moment. Regardless of who we've brought in as our manager, we seem to have the same recurring frailties.

In terms of Benitez, Rondon has been a significant signing in terms of knowing the fans confidence, but let's not forget he's also brought in Gray and Townsend.

We've seen the likes of Doucouré and Allan both improved, to different extents. Personally, I'd trust Benitez to spend the money.
