If we go down, how do you start the rebuild?

There would be no hope of a rebuild.

We have enormous debts and an enormous wage bill. Plus we’d be in breach of all sorts of financial fair play rules. And almost all our revenue streams would be gone.

We would have to sell our best players immediately and for a relative pittance. Richarlison has been linked with a move to Newcastle for £15million if we go down. Clubs would know we were desperate to sell and so they would offer us pathetically small fees.

We would be left with the crap players who are on top dollar (you know who they are!) who no one is else would be willing to give big salaries to. They would stay and keep taking their massive wages. And to be honest most of us would do the same in their position.
Absolutely no chance Richarlison goes for £15m hahahahah. We will get £50m for him without a doubt. Why do people think when you go down you just flog your players for peanuts. We bought Pickford for £30m which was huge for a keeper after Sunderland we’re relegated.

He isn't worth 50 mil now.

I agree he won't go for 15 mil, but I think it will be more like 30.

He’s worth what we say he’s worth. He’s a young Brazilian player that is a regular starter for Brazil. No way he goes for £30m.

How many goals is he likely to have scored by the end of the season, 10 maybe. You think that equates to 50 mil.

According to transfermarkt he's worth 45 mil. If we go down, he will be worth around 30-35 mil.

A lot of papers are saying this morning that we've been offering him out. With Arsenal and Newcastle interested.

I agree with your list but no way Keane Holgate and Gomes. We are spineless so need to overhaul the centre backs. And Gomes is not the future for us: too slow and not adding any goals assists
I hear you brother and can’t disagree with what you wrote.

Especially about Keane and Holgate. Problem is there probably wouldn’t be many offers on the table for them.

Maybe we could do a “buy one, get one free”.

I said “buy one, get one free”.

Moyes apparently wants Keane, when you see what he has done with Dawson I can see it tbh. Holgate has previously been linked with Brighton but that was a while back though.

We paid £50m for him when he had done less. We are not going to be low balled.

I've wanted us to "moneyball" it for years. Regardless of league status. Far too often we've spent big money with zero returns. Buying players who are a big name or play for a big club. It doesn't work on a financial level or on the pitch.

I'd like to see us buy hungry players from around us/slightly below our position. With the aim of having them eager to play and impress and with the promise that, if a "bigger" club comes calling, we'll happily be a stepping stone. Now at first, this sounds daft and many wouldn't be on board because "we need to keep these players and build around them" We don't.

If we can purchase players who are eager to play, who know we're a stepping stone to the next stage of their career, we win in 2 ways. A, we have players actually giving 100% and B, we make a big profit on the player. With this money, we can purchase 2-3 new players and the cycle continues until we're in a position where the players can only move to the very top clubs (therefore giving us bigger profits) or stick around.

This eradicates our FFP problems and most importantly, stops this club becoming a place for players to pick up a huge wage and do nothing.

If we stay up, we need to quickly adopt this method, if we go down, we'll have no choice.

As I've said previously, my worry is losing our younger guys like Gordon and Branthwaite rather than the likes of Richarlison.

If we go down, it's inevitable that we will sell the bigger contract stars, but if we also lose our young base, we've got nothing but guys like Iwobi left.

You start with a keeper and a strong back 4.
A bit like we haven't done for a couple of years now.

The irony is that our current squad is chocker with Championship quality players, and yet most of them will not want to play in the Championship.

I'm equally as curious as to which and what calibre of club would come in for our 'dead wood'.

Because not wanting to play at that level doesn't mean anybody else would want you on those wages.

i guees there will be interest in the both of them. It is more a question of clubs offering low/lower transfer fees as they know the position we are in. So will/can we accept a fire sale
also in general it will be difficult to get certain players out if they won t earn the same hefty wage that they are on with us.

Our squad is not full of championship calibre players at all. It’s full of underperforming players from a crop of different managers, with quite a few international players.

I respect your interpretation.
Many of them play like Championship players when facing Premiership quality players in our games this season.
Our league position strongly backs this opinion.

I'd go with a mix of youth and experience, we need to consolidate and not get ahead of ourselves thinking we're good enough to make the playoffs.

Lonergan

Phil Bardsley
Sol Bamba
Branthwaite
Nkounkou

Gordon
Davies
Will Hughes
Tom Ince

Rondon
Ellis

Width and pace in the midfield with two battering rams up front, try to bully our way to championship survival and build from there.
If we go down we need to be looking at a team that could get us up and we wouldn't need to fully replace to stay up in the prem and not turn into Nowrich
