If you're a blue of a certain age and need cheering up

Being in the goal stand on the left as you look at the big main stand, my overriding memory is before it started, when they played Queen We Will Rock You and all you heard was Everton fans singing 'we will f$$k you'. And we did.

This has probably been posted (??), but it's the full game of us v spurs in the 95 semi. One of our best performances in my life time! I hadnt spotted it before on youtube but if you have a an hour or 2, kick back, get a Belgian beer, enjoy and relive the moment. I didnt go, but managed to kick a cup through a patio window whilst celebrating Matt Jacksons opener. My mum wasnt happy!

I caught the back end of us winning leagues and cups in the Eighties which I am so fortunate to have done, but this was one of the top performances that came around after a pretty turgid spell - against a team that were being touted by all media as the nailed on winners.

Things to note:
The style of football on show was by far, more entertaining /fun than the tippy tap stuff we see today - I think
We knew how to take a corner - c/o Andy Hinchcliffe
Joe Parkinson was boss
Anders Limpar was a talent
David Unsworth at that time had pace
We worked our b*ll*x off
John Motson was a decent commenator
Clattering challenges were allowed
Semi Finals shouldnt be held at Wembley
Our fans can destroy any opposing fans - COYB

Amokachi and Limpar took them to the cleaners, but my god Joe Parkinson was everywhere.

What a day that was!!

I drove up from London in the morning picking my mate up in Nottingham on the way.

We got there before midday and parked near some footy pitches near Elland Road where there was a local Sunday league going on watched by loads of Evertonians waiting for the pubs to open at 12 o’clock.
Unfortunately for the side playing in red shirts they were up against it!!

We ended up in the Leeds United Sports and Social Club and it ran out of beer except for bottles of Mackeson served by two ancient barmaids..:surreal experience.

As soon as we got into the ground and saw the 3 sides of the ground filled with Evertonians I knew we would win…the belief amongst our supporters on the day was uncanny.

I remember this game and watched the Final for the whole day, I was a bit too young to remember the glory days, but I never thought this would be as good as it gets for the next 30 years... I`ve only got 30 or 40 years left on this planet if I`m lucky and I don`t think with football how it is today Everton will win a trophy in my remaining time.

Sad really, honestly there is nothing I want more... to see my club victorious.

Remember this like it was yesterday .
The way Big Joe turned that team around will live with us forever.
12 game winless run to mid table safety and an epic cup run.

What looked like a relegation squad turned out to be full of some iconic Everton players.
Gary Ablet , Waggy, Stuart , Limpar , Big Nev , Rideout, Parkinson and the biggest smile in football Amokachi.

The superstar Spurs with Klinsmann & Sheringham got absolutely battered , they even got the dodgiest of pens.

The moment we joined the M62 motorway at Huyton it wash bumper to bumper in Blue & White , we knew then there was a special day ahead.
One of our best ever days and then rounded off the final , but that's for another thread.

I was 15 when I watched this on my own on my little bedroom tv.

Not afraid to admit then when Amo scored to make it 3-1, it was the first (and to date only) time I’ve ever properly cried over a football match (I had a tear of relief in my eye after the Palace 3-2 win a couple of seasons ago, but I don’t tell anyone about that).

The joy of knowing that we were on our way to Wembley overwhelmed me, and after screaming my head off jumping around my room I just slumped on my bed and proper blubbed. I was a bit too young to really remember the highs of the 80’s so this was a bit of a first for me.

I just wish that my own boys can experience something like this in the not too distant future.
