Is Football Racist ?

Didn't even watch it coz the adverts and title made me cringe so much. Its getting ridiculous now. And Azzuri, as usual, has hit it nail on head.

But in relation to players, there's a big gap, don't you think? Its pretty obvious, but they need to want to become Managers as well don't they?

I don't think there's any discrimination whatsoever in england and in the football system. Maybe amongst certain fans but I don't think a player who was good enough wouldn't get a game coz of the colour of skin. Again didn't watch the programme so can't comment. The advert did my head in. This country is obsessed. I don't know if we are apologising subconciously for the wrongs of the past century or what but its getting ridiculous. If you are good enough you will get a game/ become a manager simple as. They are looking for stuff that isn't there and it sounds as though some of the people I.e John Barnes thinks he should get a job just because he IS black.

Ashley Cole, Glen Johnson, Joleon Lescott, Ashley Young, Danny Welbeck... Erm am I missing something here?

No. You are not. Sport is the absolute in meritocracy. The best win. The best succeed.

FFS, I will lay a bet that the 100m final in London is 8 black guys. COS THEY ARE THE BEST.

Nothing to do with colour, all to do with talent.

I will also lay a bet that the best Gymnasts come from China. Racist? Do me a frigging favour.

John Barnes failed as a manager because he couldnt understand what tactics where, if he wants to use skin colour as an excuse then so be it, but 99.9% of celtic fans know how bad he was.

Worst celtic manager ever?

Good god the first part mentions suarez and terry and then the 'omg these 2 incidents means football is racist'. I think the general outrage when these 2 incidents came to light (1 which has now been proved innocent) proves that racism isn't tolerated.

Infuriating.

I presume they didn't make any mention of Rio Ferdinand's Choc Ice comment the other day? Just as I presume no long-term fuss will be made over the making of that comment either.

For the record I think the whole John Terry thing is insane as it's making a massive (and costly) fuss over two overpaid and vulgour twits insulting each other and should never be a legal matter, but once it is at least let it run both ways.

I mean former England captain says as an insult that another player acts white. Is it any worse than what Terry or Suarez said? Maybe Fergie should get Evra et al to wear a t-shirt supporting Ferdinand, or maybe everyone should just grow up and stop making mountains out of molehills, because when you get stupid people they'll say stupid things.

Out of the thousands of professional football players in England 25% are black, whilst there's much less than 1% who manage.

Forget Barnes...he was one of the few annointed one's who got a fair shake and blew it. He should not be used as the yardstick. There's a clear cultural problem with seeing black players in positions of authority. You just cant draw any other conclusion from the stats.

I can't believe what I'm reading on this thread.

I agree, without mentioning names some appear to be protesting too much, the BNP presence is more prevalent in football than other sports for some reason so to dismiss outright the claim doesn't quite add up.

Football gets it in the neck again eh? Notice how English Rugby Union gets away with it. Not all sports are 'meritocracies'. How many non 'extortionately-sized fee paying school former pupils' get picked for England? There's only one way a poor white OR black lad gets into THAt clique in England - and it is via another sport.

Football is being contantly attacked by the media because it is a true 'working class' sport. The 'public school' BBC should take a long hard look at their own pet sport.

Yes, football has it's problems. At least it recognises they actually exist and try to do something about it.
