Is Harry Kane the modern day Gary Lineker?

For the avoidance of doubt and any other children who want to come at me… my post on the other thread which has been questioned…

No issue and in my opinion he is..... For me he wouldn't make it in the top 20 strikers to play in the Premier League. Yet the media make out that he is one of the world’s best.

I'll give you your dues, you came in and named 20 strikers, and you're entitled to your opinion, and it's out there. Thanks for not being rattled about it.
Not rattled at all tbf….

Just find the responses thus far quite pointless. Especially just some laughing emojis…

At least the other guy gave some level of response and tried to reason.

I mean it's all about opinions at the end of the day, Cantona's impact on Manchester United for example can't be measured in stats, kids these days wouldn't even understand how he almost single handedly won trophies, that year he came back from suspension and scored so many late winners for example. Zola was lovely on the eye, Fowler and Owen were world class for a few years. But to think Kane isn't a part of that conversation is, well, a hot take. I'll give you a laughing emoji to keep you unrattled.

Finally an actual response, thank you…and yes it is all subjective…. All about opinions.

I am not a big fan of Kane (despite his goals). I expect people can tell.

All of the players I have mentioned above I would pick ahead of him.

Again this came from the fact that I said 1. He was overrated (which I believe) and 2. DCL should have been given more of a chance back in 2021.

As we saw in the Iceland friendly on Friday… it doesn’t always work him dropping deep and leaving the box empty when it goes forward to the likes of Foden or Palmer. Just like the group games back in Euros 2021 it was horrendous.

Despite him wanting to get involved unless we have the runners going ahead of him it doesn’t fit. He should be in and around the 18/6 yard box and let the likes of Foden and Palmer provide the assists… or failing that let him dive to get a penalty… he is good at doing that tbf

I wouldn't say Harry Kane is overrated his numbers speak for themselves.

But the thing I would say separates him from the elite strikers is taking big moments. I struggle to think for England or for Spurs in finals or big league matches where he took the game to the opposition and stole the show.

Don't think he has scored in any final he has been in and missed the crucial penalty against France which would have made us dead on favourites to win the World Cup.

Unlike the likes of Drogba a truly big game player who's actual goal stats may not hold up to others but I would have him over Kane any day.

To be fair, I think it is very well known that if you specify a league or country then you are talking solely on performances in that said league or country.

If the question was, better strikers to have played at least 1 game in the Premier League then the likes of Shevchenko, etc. come into the equation, or if it said European leagues.

Best Premier League strikers should only be considered for their performances in the Premier League.

In my opinion, if we are going with that question, he is right up there. He is a striker than can offer more than goals, and there were quite a few goals in there as well as his all round play.

Shearer, Rooney & Henry are above him, although it would be very very close between him and Henry, so I would put him 4th or joint 3rd.
