Is Harry Kane the modern day Gary Lineker?

No, not necessarily.

There are so many things to consider. Is Kane a better footballer than Gazza? No, so saying footballer could mean various positions, various skill sets.

Kane is a very good all round footballer. You could see him playing in different positions and still getting a good game out if him. I can't see Haaland doing that, I may be proved wrong but he is a goalscorer and that is it.

As Nymzee has said, the team around them have to be looked at.

That is the subjective stuff, you are looking at a stat and going 'He must be better than the guy who didn't score as many goals', without considering that football is so much more than numbers on a page. Kane is an extremely clever footballer. For that I would put him above most players that have played in the Premiership.
People get too caught up in the beauty of it sometimes. I love that part of football as much as the next guy, but when we’re talking about who is the best that stuff doesn’t matter so much. Now if we want to talk about different positions sure different parts of the game matter but we’re talking about players who primarily are on the field to score and Haaland’s ruthless efficiency in doing that should be admired far more than it seems to be.

Come on. It is the most important matter, otherwise what is the point of any debate about anything to do with the game.

A show about the best striker would basically be.

They have more goals.

OK, that has been the show, good night.

For example, a keeper who has more clean sheets than another is not automatically the better keeper, an attacking midfielder with more assists is not automatically the best midfielder and a striker is not necessarily the better striker or better footballer than somebody who scored less.

So for me, Haaland may develop other areas of the game and, in my eyes, become subjectively better than Kane but I am a big fan how Kane plays football, so conceding that he may score more, a lot more, being the better footballer is something I have doubts about.

I think what you’re really arguing is which player you like more and less so which is actually better. Not anything really wrong with that, but it isn’t the same thing.

Anyway on a different point, Kane being a better “all around” player is to the detriment of winning football matches for his team. One great thing about Haaland is he’s never trying to do anything but his job.

No point discussing anything with Ig. If it's not on his calculator he doesn't understand it sadly.

It’s not even about that, give me the striker who is going to do nothing but work tireless to score goals. I don’t care whether they can drop into midfield and hit a cross field pass, they won’t be scoring a goal while doing that. I find great enjoyment in how single minded and efficient Haaland is. It reminds me of Giannis to go across sports. People say he’s not skilled and I frankly don’t know why I’m supposed to give a damn when he’s completely dominant.

So you'd rather a striker that without service may as well be in the stands vs a striker that's equally as good at scoring AND can set up others?

Well, yes, that is exactly the point.

Who has scored more goals is not a debate, it is a fact, but if the question is 'Who do you think is the better player?', other dimensions come into play. Say for example there is a set list of criteria and you are asked to score them. I am sure scouts use different criteria, as do most fans. So, for a striker it could be goals scored, goals inside/outside of the box, movement, team play, adaptability, etc. you can score different on each one and the one with the biggest overall score is the better player.

That bit in bold is madness. Kane scored over 200 goals, with 40+ assists, god knows how many clever runs that feed up space for others to run into and score, etc.

There’s a legit skill in being on the end of things. To some extent you make your own service.

Kane isn’t any less likely to be shut out of a game, IMO.

And yet…

A few articles questioning whether he is dropping to deep to much and others that he should have come off for Watkins.

Fine margins if that header went in I'm sure it would have been all rosy. Is it typical British media over exaggerating or should we be concerned? Is he place under threat?
