Is there Protestant or Catholic clubs in Liverpool

Thanks for letting me know. Always thought it was not like Rangers and Celtic. By the way Neiler I wasn't making a comparison between being Protestant and Homosexual just saying that they were most common abuse given in my secondary school when trying to put somone down. I have grown up since then and would not ever try to support a sectarian divide. If this thread does then I think it should be binned as well. I did not also get arrested but only because the bouncer in the pub I was in stuck up for me and said i was not the aggresive one. I'm not going to stand there and be abused by some [Poor language removed] non stop untill I have to leave. I was not trying to stand up for my religion i was standing up for myself. If i'm not allowed stand up to idiots like him then I don't wanna live in Ireland anymore. It's all good you sitting there on your high horse when you were not even there so keep your comments about me to yourself.[/QUOTE

Mate if you dont want someone to give an opinion then dont post as much info, good to hear you wernt the one rakeing up all that [Poor language removed], but for me actually highlighting a divide, or reacting is giving credence to bigotory, thats not coming from a observer, thats coming from experience. My comments are not about you in general but Irish soceity as a whole, if you took me up the wrong way i apoligise.

So you propose to just ignore it and eventually it'll go away. Would you propose the same stance for dealing with racism? If we ignore the racists they will just disappear will they? Just using that as an example. I probably should just have left out the 1st paragraph I know but what good would that have done. I'd just be ignoring what happened then.

Absolutley, untill anyone puts a hand on me they can say what they like, i dont give a [Poor language removed], if they do then they will only do it once, thats my boundry but i understand yours may be different.

I dont think reacting aggressively to bigtory or sectarinism is anyway going to lead to anythiing but making stupid people even stupider so whats the point.

I would have just pulled a good looking bird and rubbed his face in it, arseholes in pub generally start trouble because they are to ugly to score!

Both clubs started off as methodist clubs,, and people only stigmatised the clubs to select religious persuasions, based on the fact that We wore blue and They wore (Cardinal) red. They get the catholic tint because of an misplaced history due to the colour of the strip.

But for the record "Both teams have an identical religous history and lineage as they both rose from the same place. St Domingos (protestant/methodist depending on time) boys club"

Also Freemasons were the basis of both clubs.

my take on it is that everton may have started as an offshoot activity from a methodist church, but quickly realised that they were drawing people in from outside the church, hence the change of name. any subsequent attempts to link the club to either protestantism or catholicism is a result of others trying to put labels on the club to suit their own agenda. to me it's as foolish as trying to claim that based simply on shirt colour, everton must be tories & rs socialists.

MH ACKETT

Ive Supported efc since 1962 in the 70s glady st chanted for both celtic and rangers in equal vocal support.Neither club appears to lean one way or the other
but if you trace back to the 50-60s Everton had a few irish players playing for them there was farrell micky Lill Jimmy oneil a guy called Donnavan according to
my old man whos been going to goodison since the late 30s so he should know
we had a following irish support 50-60 who were catholic .
Personally I dont give a dam about a blues religeon it just does,nt equate
On a personal note the only mistake you made was to give the idiots a reaction
to the abuse which is what they were looking for in ythe first place arseholes
hate being ignored try it next time chin up lad nelson mandella spent 25 yrs
locked up and abused look how he has reacted since his release.

when the next census is due, if we all put down Evertonian under religion then would it not become a religion if a certain amount put it as their answer. when i was in New Zealand loads put Klingon and it had to be recognised as a religion.

Both clubs are from Masonic/Orange Lodge foundations. But in the 50's and 60's Everton where the Catholic club. It aint an issue anymore.

Despite this I reckon you can still see signs of it (even though no one cares, except the red [Poor language removed] with their half Celtic/Rangers scarves.) Look at places like Bootle, its mainly Catholic and almost all Evertonian. I went to a Catholic primary school in Aigburth in which i was in a 90% Evertonian year, then at my Anglican high school i was one of about 20 Evertonians compared with about 110 reds. I think if you scatch at the surface you can see little throwbacks to the 60's.

Its easy to think of Liverpool as the Catholic club because of their strong Irish support, but look closer and realise that lots of Premier league teams have Irish support - Man Utd, Arsenal, even Leeds Utd. The fact that we have been [Poor language removed] for 20 years and still have a large Irish following shows the true story.

As for the Celtic/Liverpool scarves, well we have AZ/Everton scarves, Fiorentina/Everton scarfs. Remember Liverpool have played 4 CL matches against Celtic since the mid 90's. You see Reds with Liverpool/Chelsea scarfs and they [Poor language removed] hate them... I've even seen Liverpool/Rangers scarfs (and I cant remember the last time they played each other). Also, does no one remember the Celtic/Everton bobble hats!
