I probably shouldn't say it but this signing is about as underwhelming as it gets, his track record is pretty dire, cant see the point in it and it hardly screams we have arrived.

The huge fanfare of signing Walsh , wasn't it just for this reason ? I'm
Not saying I'm necessarily onboard with Walsh being this amazing talent spotter but the theory is he spots players that have the talent and have underperformed isn't it ? In which case this is exactly his kid of deal surely .

I heard a European journalist on radio 5 last night saying he certainly has the talent but has perhaps failed to live up to that until this season and somebody on here who has seen him play seems happy enough . So let's be hopeful .

Yeah, not writing the lad off or anything time will tell, just think we need sme established players now

From what everyone is saying, this feels like it might be a very "American sports" signing. Identifying a somewhat flawed player who does one smaller thing well that allows for much bigger things to happen.

Yes, it is about a functioning team, not the best star players.
Look at England's 'Golden Generation' stuffed full of top class players with absolutely no structure.

Every side needs a few non limelight players who do all the graft for the headline makers.
I hope he can help make our midfield to striker link up finaly click into place.

Dunno why but i really want this one to go through. Love bargains (in today's market at least) that end up coming good. Would probably put most of the FIFA/FM scouts in their place anyways if he ended up boss!

It genuinely doesnt really matter what he has done elsewhere, like any player really. Veron, Shevchenko are two examples of boss players with great track records who did nothing over here, then you have the likes of Kilbane who the Sunderland fans hated but he went on to do well for us.

Cant say i know loads about Belfodil but he does look as if he has some useful traits so the key will be getting the most out of them. Not every forward player needs to be an out and out goalscorer. Besides we already have one of the best at doing that.

Cult hero I reckon.

In 5 years time people will be arguing about if he was boss or rubbish.

Interesting one that Paps. I can see him being poop, then scoring against the RS at Hell's Mouth, jumping into Big Stand and doing a Ketsbaia/ Coleman celebration on the Norwegians

Right all, let's all do what will henceforth known as the Cleverley Confessional.

How do you think Belfodil will do at Everton?

I think he will be monumental tosh.

A key point I think people miss about this sort of signing is that we are constrained (no matter how much anyone wants to stick their head in the sand about it) by FFP. An increase in commercial income will help this, but we are still miles away from the spending power of Man City or United, for example. One of the reasons for bringing someone like Walsh in (or Monchi when he was the original target) must be to help us unearth gems which we can sell on for big profits to help make up the shortfall in our commercial income and allow us to compete at the top end of the tree as far as wages and bigger transfers are concerned. This transfer (and I'm willing to bet it ends up being a fair bit under the £10.5m quoted figure) and the likes of Gana represent that sort of thing, along with the signing of younger players like Calvert-Lewin and Lookman.

The general apprehension about signing a player nobody had heard of or who isn't a FIFA/FM star or whatever, is just something we will have to get over. Our signings will be a mixture of established players and punts on carefully scouted unpolished gems. If there was a single person on here who was championing Gana as a priority signing in the summer, I missed it.

I know how corny it sounds, but you just have to have faith that the process will work. Not every signing will come off (Walsh had more than his fair share of misses at Leicester), but we have a new recruitment division in place for a reason. As long as their YouTube highlights don't set off the kind of alarms that Niasse's did in my head, then I'm willing to give anyone the benefit of the doubt.

(obviously if Belfodil turns out to be awful then the above is null and avoid)

he looks like the kind of player who would have one good season and be rated at £30m ish, and then we sell him for that and he'll go on to flop at his new club ha.

I love him already....

If this doesnt happen I shall be booing him heartily though.
