….Tommy Jackson was an able understudy to Ball, I think he moved to Forest as part of the Newton deal. Our friend @Joey66 often mentions getting a useless Henry Newton as replacement for the greatest Everton player of our time.
Henry Newton joined Everton in late 1970, over a year before Ball went to Arsenal. IIRC, Newton played his first Everton game at Arsenal along with Alan Ball. I was there and we lost 4-0.

We might have lost anyway, but I remember being peed off before Kendall was dropped for Newton and the 'Holy Trinity' was split up.

So basically your saying he wasn’t a good professional as they should play there optimum each time they pull on a shirt of whoever... he always played quite well for the National side too from what I have read...
Your saying he wasn’t a good professional not me. He loved being at Everton and was idolised by the fans here. He never recaptured the form of his Everton days at Arsenal. When he finished his career he always had his heart at Everton. I just don’t think he enjoyed his football as much when he left us. He wasn’t the first and he won’t be the last player to produce his best football whilst at one club and not replicate it elsewhere.

He was world-class the best midfielder to don a blue shirt -did far better at Southampton in his twilight years - if Geoff Hurst had not scored a hat tick in the 1966 final for the World cup - Ball was easily MOTM - every club was after him - we were lucky to get him foolish to, sell him he was carrying an injury & Harry Catterick made the mistake of leaving him as captain - that's all he had to do was hand the captaincy back to Labby .....
Bally was an inspiration as a player - never a leader/Captain his standards were too high - plus he never ever became a force as a manager later on either...

We played the better football from late 1967 to 1970 - the Holy Trinity were a unit for a longer time than when we lifted the title .....

It was magical football v far better sides in the eras - on paper the 1980s side were on paper easily the best side

The 1970s side were far more pleasing on the eye imo for 3 seasons - 1968 they through the FA Cup away ..... as I stated Catterick was past his best - HK with the help of CH were just getting into their pomp plus if that European ban had never come they would have maybe won a European cup, so there would have been not even a thread like this ......

Different eras etc - different game too .....

Bernard played full back and was not Bally's replacement but he was average.
Bernard played both in midfield and at left back. He was actually quite a decent player, but, he was like the fella you played against on a Sunday morning who’d been on a professional club’s books, but, who had not made the grade. Bags of ability, but 2 stone over weight, and just not fit enough to make a real difference to the game.

Hahaha
Bally.... wow just wow
Was the Best footballer to ever play for Everton fc

And to think the young guns on here call ferguson a legend
My dad was lucky enough to witness the teams of the 60s and 80s. He said no one in all his years came close to Alan Ball in ability. He said Alex Young had equally adulation from the terraces and on his day was a sight to behold, but he said Ball was the best player he ever saw wear the jersey.

100%
Been better goal scorers and electric wingers etc

But as a pure footballer no one comes close to alan ball

I get what you are saying but what I am saying is when you say a player doesn’t play to the best of his ability due to how he feels it does question his professionalism.. a player should always play to his best ability for whoever pays him his wages...

He was being played on injury - our Manager had lost the plot - history proves that by his replacements ....
