Transfer Rumour Jaden Philogene

Yes, I'm sure getting 'coached' by Dyche rather than Unai Emery will unlock the potential in any player........

Don't know why the Villa board haven't thought about this........

Why are you mentioning Dyche?

It seems quite obvious that Iroegbunam needed a run of games and I suspect the evidence of Philogene performing after loans tells the same story.

Coaching and gametime seem to be the ways to unlock the clear potential Emery has been unable to.

Villa improved too quickly weirdly - it left there talented youngsters with too big a gap between them and the starters to edge their way into the side.

Different level ofc but look at just how good you have to be to make it from the city academy into their side these days - years ago it was Chelsea that had that issue.

Back in United's period of dominance the top sides didn't have a 25 man squad full of top internationals like is common these days so they could always find a way through.

On top of that the way the financial regulations work now it's the academy which is most suitable to use to comply with PSR also

Interesting mix certain sides have with a smattering of young players but many around the 30 mark.

….from the clips I saw he seemed to play mostly from the left but I suppose we can more accurately call him a ‘winger’. Damairi Gray might be your answer, but be it a loan or a permanent, I just hope we finally bring one in that’s remotely effective.

Gray was a left winger.

Philogene plays RW for Villa and was playing LW for Hull where he stood out.

This is why i mentioned possibly getting both him and Fellows as we need both wide positions filled.

I actually agree with Zat on this one.
Fellows has all the attributes of Anthony Gordon, apart from a sensible haircut and he 's not an idiot

Just out of interest, and I'm probably using one of the best young group of players of the English game as an example here but.....
in the 1994/95 season, Man Utd had what you would call 14 senior professionals over 21(15 if you include Giggs who had played for 2 seasons) on the books (sides of 11 plus 3 subs, 1 had to be a goalkeeper)

That's 4 players to cover injuries and suspensions, of one of the mis Gary Walsh the goalkeeper.

As forward thinking as Fergie was with bringing Beckham, the Nevilles, Scholes, Butt through it was much easier to give these lads a go with the smaller squads (e.g Paul Parker played 2 games all season due to a big injury, opened the pathway for Gary Neville)

The introduction of more and more substitute places available has possibly stunted more players coming through as the cash rich clubs stock there benches with first team ready players and it also keeps these players fairly content as they are involved (whereas if you are player 16/17 in a squad back then, your probably not even likely to travel)

Yup that's pretty much the point I was making but with a more detailed example mate.

Even the cup competitions back then provided a real chance for the younger academy lads as well as it was the chance to rest the main players, now most when rotating have almost a backup 11 which they've paid good money on to plug in.

There is nothing really standing out in terms of young or old starting xi's from this sort of graph

Teams with young xi's
Chelsea- doing well/ok
Brighton - doing ok
Spurs - struggling
Man Utd - struggling
Southampton - struggling
Bournemouth - doing well

Teams with old xi's
Everton - struggling
West Ham - struggling
Fulham - doing well
Villa - doing ok/well last year
Man City - struggling
Newcastle - doing well

Maybe the one thing you take from those lists are Liverpool & Forest are nowhere to be seen on either, Arsenal (2nd) are only on there once, a decent blend of both young and old, or even a group of 25-28 year olds are the best combinations

Had a peak at a Villa forum and a lot said his best game this year was against Bayern, were he was asked to play a more defensive role down the right and counter. Apparently his defensive stats are very good for a winger of his style. Surprised me reading that to be hornet.

I like Fellows, one player I've actually bothered to watch.

Just watched a 3 and a half minute video from his hull time.
Rapid, can smash a ball, bit tricky, and battles like an old school winger.
It's a yes from me.
I keep going back to Oumar Niasse and his YouTube video, I thought we were buying a prime George Welsh, turns out George from the corner shop had as good a touch.
