I’ll wager he’s better than Keane without even seeing much of the lad, he’s been managed awfully by Dyche, as have the team/squad.

Mate I've said it loads but Keane walks into the Ireland squad. Would be one of our best players.
I don't think we can really decide whether he as an individual is being managed badly because we don't have anywhere near enough to go on. I can think of lots of players just in recent years who were supposedly being managed badly/held back/not appreciated enough by a particular manager, only for them to be treated in exactly the same way by other managers either here or elsewhere. It's not like O'Brien was universally acknowledged as being world class before he came, he's already failed to break through at one PL club it's not exactly out of the question that he just isn't actually that good.

Better to just assume the actual worst case scenario as fact for everything despite having little evidence, seems to be the fashionable MO on here currently.
If you can simultaneously conclude that O’Brien is rubbish and it’s also Dyche’s fault he’s not playing him (despite him apparently being rubbish) then you should just do this multiple times per day. If you can also somehow criticise Thelwell blindly but without taking any criticism away from Dyche then that would be good too.
At the end of this season we may have one other senior CB on the books if Branthwaite is sold and Keane and Holgate go off their contracts. It might not look like the worst planning in the world to have a CB in situ who has had a season developing in the first team squad under his belt.

Dont think anyone including me is calling him world class, and I don’t really care what he did at his previous PL club tbh.
Im basing my assessment that he was playing regularly for Lyon before we signed him, and also didn’t look too bad in a number of our friendlies pre season once signed.
He’s being managed badly, like our entire team.

I just think it's daft when we get like this to be honest. It's happened with virtually every manager I can remember us having eventually - people make up their mind that they don't like them and then just shoehorn literally every possible criticism in to validate their own opinion of them being incompetent, regardless of whether there's anything to back it up with. I don't know how good O'Brien is or will be. If i'm honest then what I've seen of him hasn't really made me think it's all that great, but he's inexperienced and young, and so I'm happy to believe that he has a lot of improvement in him.

I don’t know how good or bad the lad is because he’s not kicking a ball for us.
He may also have a lot of improvement in him, but he won’t improve sitting on his arse watching Micheal Keane wander around looking lost and Tarkowski smashing into everyone like he’s just turned up for the game on a Sunday morning after being out on the lash all night.
Keane is out of contract (I hope) so this lad should be playing, developing, improving now.
We’re not exactly being an ironclad defensive unit keeping clean sheet after clean sheet without O’Brien are we - when does he get to show if he is any good or bad?
For me, that’s incompetence and bad management.
Would not read too much into that, Branthwaite isn't getting called up for England because he's hardly played this season. Do you think if O'Brien was playing regularly for Everton he would not be called up for Ireland ? Simply if you don't play for you're club you very rarely get selected for you're Country.
