2024/25 Jake O'Brien

Theoretically Young is the back up. The issue is more with the lack of money (or spending power anyway) that we had.

The lack of youth players who can step up and fill in annoys me more. Its been like this for years, other clubs will throw in a young prospect in an injury crisis. They don't even have to be great, a Jonjoe Kenny level player would do to plugs the gaps in the meantime.
Totally agree mate, I have always thought that whilst we have struggled to strengthen the first team squad in recent years (for obvious reasons) I wish we had put a bit more focus on the youth side of things, having the best coaches, having the best youth scouts and most of all the best players (budget permitting of course)

We assume Tarkowski is playing through an injury mainly because he has been a bit off.

Mykolenko is a bit meh at the best of times. It's mad we still don't have proper cover for him.
Players putting their own poor form down to a mystery injury is an excuse as old as the hills, its endearing that there are people who just take it completely at face value and repeat it as infinitum as if it’s a documented fact.

He was being mentioned in the £20-25mil bracket before we signed him for £16-17mil.

I wonder if we could punt him for a profit. Would help on the PSR side and may enable us to buy 2 or 3 comparable players price wise.

Yes, I can see teams that didn’t want him when he was £16 million going after him for £20 million after his impressive performances on our bench.

It was rumoured that there were a handful of teams after him but he joined because we had the inside track with Textor.

Same with Mangala and almost with Nuamah.

Plenty of teams sell flops for a higher amount than they paid. I dont think any interested parties would be put off with him not playing for a few months.

We have not focused on youth and the approach has been wrong for decades at this point, unless it's an obviously world class talent (and that happens once a generation or more).

Doesn't help that we haven't had managers who favour and give young players a chance more often, ever, really - Moyes was stubborn too early on (and honestly even towards the end, despite having a better academy then), since then it's been shambles, and now Dyche just doesn't rate any young player - no idea what potential talent will see this and go "yeah I'll join them and not just about any other team that actually plays younger players".

We don`t seem to be one of these teams. We belong to the group of teams that tie players down on 5 year deals and let them go for free when the deals expire.

The €14.3mil fee on the official document at todays rate is £11.95mil.

This and the free Mangala loan + attempting to push Nuamah out the door to us, support the theory that Textor did us favours. He of course also signed Mangala incl loan €35.1mil, Nuamah €28.5mil, Niakate €31.5mil which all look dodgy.

Not to mention us signing Francis Gomez and loaning him to Lyon B.

Shouldnt be too hard to get £12mil back on O'Brien when he was rated at £20mil+ before we signed him.

Or we don’t sell him and as soon as a new manager comes in, him and Keane swap places in the hierarchy.

He isn’t a flop that we need to get rid of. He is a younger player that has been bought by thelwell with future manager in mind.

I reckon most managers would take Keane over him.

That's OK though, O'Brien is young, he's a good prospect who hs only had a half decent season in the French league so far. His time will come. Hopefully anyway.

24 in May with one good season of football.

I think i'd be trying to move him on for a profit if offers were there.

Seriously, is this lad Jack any good? How many of you have seen him play, anywhere? Not having a go at him, I know almost nothing about him. But I presume the manger and coaching staff do, they work with the players almost every day.
