2024/25 Jake O'Brien

Very old head on young shoulders.

I like that he doesn't dive in while in his own 18 yard box or dangle a leg.

Knows when to get shut and go long and when to knock it short.

Feather in Thelwell's cap, tbf.
Cost us the second goal though as he hesitate rather than getting to the ball first. Understandable though.

A very likeable lad; also helps hugely that he's putting in some very impressive performances.

Full credit to Moyes here, he's got him playing CB, RB and at times in midfield and the lad is shining.

P.S, well done Kev Thelwell @Eggs

….yep, I posted at the time it’s the first inkling of any transition planning. I think @Zatara called him a dud and there was plenty of suggestions the deal was fully facilitated by attempted bid to buy us and nothing to do with Thelwell, although I’d prefer to make him accountable for all deals and this one looks decent business.

Yes 100%.

As I said multiple times, he did seem like a dud -- based on Dyche not using him.

You were pro Dyche and I also felt that defence first would see us stay up (it worked until it didnt). Logically that type of manager would "know a defender"...

...or be expected to youd think?

Im definitely pro Thelwell with 3 points on this:

1: Mangala, OBrien and Nuamah were all Lyon players with their owner thinking hed be our owner. Logic dictates that he'd send his players over to help keep us up and improve their value with premier league games.

2: The Maupay (Thelwell didnt sign him as reported by itk posters) deal and also the Beto deals seem to be sticks to beat Thelwell with -- no matter the reality.

3: Under Dyche the signing was indeed a "dud" no matter the player as he was excluded from the pitch. Clearly under Moyes he looks a similar player to Branthwaite in terms of wanting him to develop and believing he could develop into an elite player.

Branthwaite and O'Brien as a future pairing strikes me as being pretty frightening for opposing centre forwards.

Looks great business and questions need to be asked of Dyche.
