2022/23 James Garner

Garner is a midfielder. But the fact he can slot in at right back means we are sufficiently covered there for next season and we can focus on getting a LB who will replace or at least push Mykolenko.
Garner has the potential to have the best all round quality to our midfield , which in turn will improve our whole team and make the biggest and most important improvement to how we play.

If we use him as a Rb just cos he can fill that role, it is a travesty to football. And it will effect/waste his time improving his/our game...

We have to be moving far far away from the Holgate/Godfrey filling positions.

Patterson and Coleman, Garner as a last resort to fill in. I'm happy with that for next season.

I disagree.

Isn't it best all round if a flank is strengthened massively rather than just having competition in midfield?

Not having FBs who can get up the pitch and do an attacking job as well as a defensive job has badly limited us in the last couple of seasons.

Wholeheartedly agree

I think we might be seeing Garner in the process of transitioning to RB.

Great to know that if Coleman signs again but is crocked we have an option.

That was a real end of season bonus we got in that B'mouth game. It'll be intersting how he performs in a flat back 4 today.
You know full well this is not going to happen

Can I just point out that Garner had quite a few good solid games in the midle. We look better with him there as he is composed and can pick a pass. So I'd rather go by that metric than 1 game at RB. It just shows he is versatile but he should be played in his best position, especially as he's probably our best midfielder on the ball.

He's also got high work rate, he's pretty well rounded and the signs are really good going forward that he will reach his potential.

Keep him in the middle we have RB's

Bar the injuries, I still have faith Patterson will fill that role.

As for strengthening midfield, I don't think garner would just strengthen the competition, I think he would control the midfield...

It's trusting dyche to see this tho.

Probably been mentioned, but with Dyche being a Forest fan. He will have seen a lot of Garner during his time there. I think Dyche will understand he has a highly rated midfielder who can do a 7/10 job at RB as cover, seems very wasted at RB and agree with previous comments that he improved our midfield in the games he played last season.

I see only one position that Patterson might come good in: wide right.

I've said before about his injuries: they are caused by positional naivety. He's stretching this way and that and turning abruptly to get where he needs to be when we get caught with the ball.

RB is not this lad's position.

Never will be.

I thought Dyche was a rs?

I like Garner.
