No but I'm pretty lukewarm. He reminds me a bit of Mykolenko in that I'm just not really sure what the higher level version of his game would even be. I don't see anything that he's awesome at I guess. But I can't write anyone off playing in this current mess of a situation.
If you can’t see he has massive potential then surely football isn’t for you?

The positions he gets himself in his willingness to get on the ball his passing Decent set piece Did ok wide so looks versatile think with the right players around him he can keep improving and think if he played further forward will do even better.
Same i feel if we had more of a mix in midfield with a more creative player who could get on the ball and create things. With garner as the link as you said in the box to box with another sitting would help him. Is a player you will never really see his full game on tv unless you go the match to see.

Has alot more to his game than mykolenko i do agree you do want see more from him. I hope that he can have more luck next season keep him fit and a run in the team

I think he does a lot of subtle work that solidifies our play which isn't obvious but definitely a player you need on the pitch but I truly think with enough experience and right chemistry of players he could be a top talent as he obviously possesses technical skills that many of our players lack and unlike say gomes who was too slow and easily became flustered when pressed , he seems to composed and able to compete in the Premier League but needs time to fully flourish

Crazy we're still doing this. We've been in this exact spot with Gordon and Godfrey recently too, not to mention a similar spot with Mykolenko and even someone like Bernard as well. That is to say that a player performing at an average at best level doesn't have to one day be above average or better just because they're young nor does someone new to the PL at the same level have to reach a higher level simply because they'll get more familiar to the league. Often it doesn't go that way.

Development curves just aren't usually as drastic as we want to believe they are. Garner has played over 100 first team games. That he's not standing out in our team that is just desperately begging for anyone to do so is really not a great sign. I mean even McNeil has had a few games where he's just clearly been the best guy in our side. I can't say that for Garner.

The most likely path for him to take is for him to get slightly better in time. To go from the average-ish guy he is now to maybe slightly more. Normal development. Maybe he'll have a fairly long PL career doing that and that'll be fine for us at this point. But I do think people need to sort of accept that his career will more likely resemble James McCarthy's than Gareth Barry's.

All that being said I really do want to see him in a better set up team. I want to see a lot of our players in a better set up team. I just don't have massive hopes.

I Honestly don't know how you do it so well, ( Obviously an art form ) But you really are a mental drain on the brain.
You really need to get out your closet for day, Enjoy some beautiful Sunshine and go for a nice walk, see the world/wildlife while enjoying some nice music in the background... stop for a nice drink whilst acknowledging passers by, with a smile and the odd 'Morning' 'Afternoon' General politeness....

Just give it a go one day m8 !!!

I just really don't get why responses like this happen or are acceptable for what I think is a fair and reasonable post about someone. I didn't insult anyone. I wasn't mean. I just don't see as much upside in the player!

Every single player in the world is potentially a good player.

As much as I would like to join in the Big Oil pile on, the abuse hes got over the last few pages is a bit rum.

I get it, we want the lad to succeed, I want the lad to succeed, I just dont think hes done anything to warrant the Gareth Barry comparisons that ive noticed over the last few pages.

Very early days for the lad and I said a few pages ago, hes not a bad player and hes very young and has lot of improving to do, im just not sure hes done anything other than float around midfield looking tidy.

I guess thats a decent benchmark, for now.

Hasn't played anywhere near enough for us to make definitive statements on his ability/ceiling.

I'm just going off the few times I've seen him, at least he can get a foot on the ball and pass it, he also grafts hard. That alone shows he's worthy of a place. He has had a good year last year helping Forest up and was looking to push on.

As it stands the lads playing catch up fitness wise and has still done enough to be a starter for me.

I mean that's more than some of our midfielders, but yeah, he's hardly a God cuz of that.

Don't wanna say it in case it turns out to be right, but Davies looked like a limited but tidy player... hope Garner at least surpasses him, which would be a very low bar but it's where we are as a club currently sadly.

I like him, think he could be a very decent centre mid, but with our injury issues I'd be tempted to play him at right back against Bournemouth. He has the right attributes to be effective there defensively and getting forward. Iwobi in front of him and Gana and Onana holding with Doucoure supporting Gray. Could be out best chance for goals and definitely would worry me less than Holgate playing there.

I’ve been very impressed. We’ve at least seen some promising young players kick on this season. Garner and McNeil should be regular starters next season, plus Branthwaite, Mills and Patterson. This is more like the profile of player we should regularly be signing. Even Onana has been inconsistent but his age and potential means we’ll sell him for a healthy profit.

He will step up to the party on Sunday, I have no doubt about it. Has some character about him, which will be needed in the Cauldron, with us all yelling and screaming, one of the few positives of another truly dire season.

For what its worth I'm with you Big Oil, there's no doubt he could be a class player but how many times have we been burned thinking that of the next big thing that comes our way. I'm cautiously hopeful he becomes an integral part of our future, nothing more.
