Player Valuation: Free Transfer
We had him on loan at Forest,I liked him a lot, talented player,I think with a run of games he could be a decent prem level player

would you have him back in your first team if you could? We had him on loan at Forest,I liked him a lot, talented player,I think with a run of games he could be a decent prem level player
I know we all hate Gordon now but still too early to be writing him off IMO, just like it is with Garner. The pair of them are only 21 I think.Crazy we're still doing this. We've been in this exact spot with Gordon and Godfrey recently too, not to mention a similar spot with Mykolenko and even someone like Bernard as well. That is to say that a player performing at an average at best level doesn't have to one day be above average or better just because they're young nor does someone new to the PL at the same level have to reach a higher level simply because they'll get more familiar to the league. Often it doesn't go that way.
Development curves just aren't usually as drastic as we want to believe they are. Garner has played over 100 first team games. That he's not standing out in our team that is just desperately begging for anyone to do so is really not a great sign. I mean even McNeil has had a few games where he's just clearly been the best guy in our side. I can't say that for Garner.
The most likely path for him to take is for him to get slightly better in time. To go from the average-ish guy he is now to maybe slightly more. Normal development. Maybe he'll have a fairly long PL career doing that and that'll be fine for us at this point. But I do think people need to sort of accept that his career will more likely resemble James McCarthy's than Gareth Barry's.
All that being said I really do want to see him in a better set up team. I want to see a lot of our players in a better set up team. I just don't have massive hopes.
Can see him getting shoehorned in a rb/rwb on Sunday, just cos he will have a go and do his best wherever you put him - like the lad, goes about his work quietly and efficiently, wants the ball and he doesn’t go hiding in plain sight.
I would,I think Cooper could really develop him,he strikes as a player who needs regular games to be at his bestwould you have him back in your first team if you could?
Also ban Gana, glad he's found a new thing to try but I'd prefer if he never EVER does it again, honestly.the free kick he took vs wolves that went slightly right and high of the target... his aim was off (obv) but he hit that ball cleaner than any other dead ball I've seen us take this year.
I'd have him on right footed spot kicks, McNeil where you ned a lefty... ban Gray or Iwobi from taking them.
Just to one of your points: if we had "average" in all positions we are midtable. A player being "average" in this team is in the top 10%.Crazy we're still doing this. I would just be very surprised if either was a high level player. I think they'll be around the PL for awhile but mostly bottom half.I know we all hate Gordon now but still too early to be writing him off IMO, just like it is with Garner. The pair of them are only 21 I think.

Yeah the point wasn't to argue about how Garner is playing but I personally don't think he's been an average PL playerJust to one of your points: if we had "average" in all positions we are midtable. A player being "average" in this team is in the top 10%.

You really think he is on par with Godfrey and mykolenko? Jesus I was going to say watch more football but you've seemed to reach a ceiling on learning distinctions in quality. Garner is a fundamentals player who links things together if you can't see that I despair, he is vastly superior technically even if he doesn't become top shelf he is on another level then other younger players here . You're like the alexi Lolas of this forum just can't fathom your commentary sometimes-solely footy discussion no attack on you as a personCrazy we're still doing this.
