James McCarthy - I'm not impressed

He hasn't covered quite as much ground as he normally does recently. That's not the end of the world though. We had a fairly relaxed pre-season, he'll be back to full steam soon enough.

Average in the first two games and then terrible against Chelsea and also WBA, I was impressed with literally every other player (Naismith had a quiet game but we all know how well he's been playing otherwise).

Thank god he wasn't playing like this at the start of last season because he would have been slaughtered.

Maybe he also fears the competition from Besic and Gibson.

It probably is the contract. Most players' form goes a bit rubbish around that time.

Jags had a better game and we needed to stick with him. Same with McCarthy.

He's just on a patch of poor form and it's cost us points as his play is integral to how we defend as a team. He shouldn't be immune to criticism but he'll be back to his best soon i reckon.

You carry on being in despair but just let people rightly point out that his form has dipped and has yet to live up to last seasons great form. It has been noticeable so people are commenting on it but I have yet to see him being written off because then that would be fickle.

sounds like a minor point, but I think it looks like his boots are "digging in" and possibly ill-fitting

think he may just need to break them in a bit more, they may be new and therefore pinching a bit

This is exactly what I saw from him at Wigan - passive, afraid to take command. Last season he blew me away out of the blue, but I hope this isn't a revert to type situation.

People on here will tell you I'm a massive fan of McCarthy (if anyone ever pays attention to my awful posts), but I agree he's in poor form at the moment.

The issue is that by and large we haven't noticed him at all, neither good or bad. He's had zero influence on the game.

He's not making mistakes, but he's not bossing the midfield either, or even coming close to doing so.

I noticed he settled into the game more at WBA when ossie came on. In other words his dodgy passing this season might be down to some of the other lads not wanting the ball (hiding) unlike ossie when he came on. This is probably down to lack of form and confidence the whole team have shown since we threw the points away at Leicester, then arsenal and then got bummed by Chelsea.
Don't know if this makes any sense like but that's what I reckon ha

The season has barely started and by common consent the whole team has had a subdued opening few weeks.

Come back when he has had ten or eleven consecutive bad games behind him.

Then happen you can justifiably start talking about his form having "dipped".

This thread and comments like yours are straight from the Aiden McGeady Unappreciation Society manual.
