James McCarthy

Another good performance from McCarthy yet he still has to justify his price tag to a section of our fan base.
Behave lads there's no shame in being wrong, just have the balls to admit it. Oh and enjoy your large slice humble pie and bunion soup.

I've been guilty in the past of slating players from other clubs when they don't seem to do anything too impressive but are rated highly. Barry was the main one and now he's at Everton, I can see exactly why he's been rated so highly for all those years. It's similar with McCarthy. He doesn't do anything out of this world, but he wins tackles and keeps possession very well. You need players like Barry and McCarthy in your team to allow the more technical players like Barkley and Mirallas to do what they're good at. The best thing is that he is still very young so will only get better.

He's doing well, him and Barry work well in midfield and allow us to be expressive up top. The problem is Leon Osman at the moment. I still expect to see a bit more from McCarthy in the opposition half because at Wigan he encroached towards the edge of the box more often, but I think we need a better midfielder than Osman to keep the shape to allow him to do it.

He's doing better than I expected this early on his Everton career but there's more to come I reckon. A lot of what he is doing is energy and enthusiasm.

McCarthy, Barry and Barkley is a pretty balanced midfield, far more than we've had for a while. If we keep those 3 fit and Piennar/Miralles out wide we have every reason to be optimistic this year. We will need reinforcements in midfield in January though now gibson's out otherwise Osman and Naismith will play far more than most would like! McCarthy was everywhere yesterday, he fills in spaces, moves the ball quickly and isn't afraid to put his foot in to win the ball. hopefully he'll add more driving runs to his game, saw a few glimpses of it yesterday.

His best game so far imo, his work rate was great & he was always available to receive the ball, which I've felt hasn't always been the case in his first few games. If he carries on like this, then I'll be happy to say I was wrong about the lad.

Played well today but i would like to see him break forward more

I agree with this. He was very good yesterday, in terms of breaking things up, mopping up etc. A very tidy player. Occasionally he needs to be more aware that there are times he can drive on towards the opposition penalty area. I think he did it once near the end of the match. He's got bags of energy though and definitely has a 'special uniqueness' as RM would say!!

He had a very good 2nd half seemed better when Osman went off as it allowed him the responsibility to get more forward - he will become a very good player for us Barry was very good yesterday and Ross - we have a heart beat of a midfield - we just looked poor in defence to the high ball!

What is the link between the two?

I just don't get it. LM goes off therefore CM can go forward - how does that work?

Pienaar played higher up the pitch than Osman. Baines played Left Wing for most of the match. How come it is Ossie's fault?

He took responsibility Osman was never in front of Baines and drifted inside too much for me , and he only looked good in the first 15 minutes I an afraid he is just a bench warmer now his legs have gone for me McCarthy looked happier pushing forwards from then on he sprayed some nice forward passes around when Osman was taken off too deep when he was on ok!

Right , so let me get this straight, Baines is in front of Osman and that is Osman's fault not Baines'? I see.

Also, you haven't explained how Osman going off then means McCarthy can go forward more. Pienaar pushed on more than Osman. I just don't see the link you are making.
