James McCarthy

So combative, we would have been completely bi-passed if he wasn't in there competing for every ball. Would love to see him add goals to his game, would be complete player.

Disagree, what a kick in the balls to do to Jags especially when he has found excellent form again.

Also would put far too much pressure on McCarthy.
I'm not sure Jagielka gets out of being captain. it certainly isn't translated into anything vocal or using his status to get into match officials, or even organising the defence as far as I can see.

What qualities are you looking for from a captain?

Basically...

He does organise the defence, it just isn't in a John Terry yelling kind of way.

And even if you don't think he does, McCarthy wouldn't be able to do it either given his position on the field. You would just completely sap the confidence of a key player for us for no on field benefit.

If McCarthy is a natural leader he will grow into being vocal to match officials etc with or without the armband.

Jagielka will never go down as a captain of note, IMO. You either have the gravitas for that role or you dont. He doesn't.

He'll be gone soon enough. McCarthy, because he's young, will be around for a long time but also very experienced now would be a decent candidate to succeed him.
