Did you catch Elstone (someone at the "top of Everton") anyway calling the pundit at SSN to make it clear the McCarthy deal was in no way dependent on the sale of Fellaini? "Everton were always going to do business" was the catch phrase.

I´ll believe it when I see it.

If that's the case we should have ALL the Fellaini money available in january.

Can't really see it though.

Think we've overpayed a bit for, at this point in time, a Championship player. He was never going to stay there for more than one year, regardless if they moved back up or not, so it's clearly inflated and with no bigger team coming in I can't see what the hurry was if it wasn't for the sale of Fellaini.

Kone is the real gripe with me though, was decent for Wigan but in no way a guaranteed 10-goals a season striker and old. That's were we got took to the cleaners for certain.

Other clubs I reckon knew he was only going one place, that's why no competition for his signature came in for him; same as with Fellaini to United.

Kone could well get a boost out of someone from his old team he's on the same wavelength as. I wouldn't discount seeing a very different player with McCarthy playing in midfield behind him.

Great signing. I dont think we paid way over the odds at all. This summer has seen the upping of valuations on players because of the extra revenue knocking about/clubs borrowing against that cash. Prices became inflated and they wont come down in a hurry.

We have an experienced but very young player who can add one touch passing and zip to that midfield area...which we've been crying out for. The team has a vey youthful look to it now with him in there (a point not detracted from Barry's loan as he'll be cover for Gibson). That was alarmingly not so under Moyes last period in charge when he hunkered down with his old guard like Hitler in the bunker.

pmsl.

This narrative is something that should be kept alive by every supporter over the next few months, as to not let it get buried come the next two transfer windows. The Fellaini deal alone covers all of our incomings this summer, including loan fees and such. The TV money that other clubs are spending against hasn't been touched by us, and there's circa £5m for Anichebe sitting somewhere.

There should be absolutely no reason for us to sell another asset (and we all know which soon to be England international that is, as the rest dwindle away) to make additions.

True, but sooner or later Utd wil come in for Barkley and we will sell. He´s probably already included in their plans for the next decade.

"Yeah but Porsmouth owed us £10m so Glen Johnson was only £8m"

I will not accept Kopitenomics on this forum.

We paid £13m for McCarthy however you dress it up.

What did you want us to do then?
Play who in midfield alongside barry?
McCarthy and Barry should be good :)

I hope Barkley tells Moyes where to get off when he comes in for him

Treated him with contempt while he was Everton manager. If he must go at some point, I hope it's to someone else

I hope he doesn't go at all of course. If a crazy Kazak Oligarch buys us, you never know

I am a wigan fan and have watched a lot of James he can go missing in games at time but he is. Young and when he's on his game he is top class he always gives 110 percent in a year of 2 he will be worth double what you have payed I think Everton fans will love him and I would like to wish him well

I suspect we had a small transfer kitty which explains why we went in on the last day with a low offer spread over 4 years (£7m + £3m add-ons). The Anichebe and Fellaini deals allowed us the improve the bid to what Wigan were after. Technically Everton are perhaps not lying and the original plan might well have been to buy McCarthy independent of the Fellaini transfer and sign someone else as Fellaini's direct replacement. That said I expect the extra fee and terms of payment have come out of last nights sales. We might have £10m - £15m left for January.

This makes me feel a load better too.

I get the 'go missing bit' but you've made me feel a whole lot better about it going forward.
